Ravi, I appreciated learning about this part of history. I can't image a 14-year-old being that cruel. His madness indeed had reached its peak. I believe the power of the throne can blind people when they begin to believe they are the god and can do whatever they want and no one can ever challenge them. Elagabalus met a dreadful end. I agree with John Dalberg's quote, "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely." Thanks for sharing.
Happy Monday and a wonderful week ahead!
      Stay Blessed!

This is new information for me also, and I appreciate your detailed article. It was very interesting to read about the power of this evil 14 year old. At least there was a fitting end for Heliogabalus. I also agree with the John Dalberg quote. This is an excellent article Ravi.

Thanks for posting Ravi's article Misbah.

Wow,  Ravi, he certainly was scandalous and quite depraved. But what do you expect giving all that power to someone so young. I am amazed I had never heard of him before.
    Thanks for sharing, Misbah.

    Ravi, hello.
This is a very interesting piece and I enjoyed it very much.
The problem with Elagabalus is that we can't really trust the sources. Each of the three main accounts of his reign gives a very partial account. Each writer has a reason for painting Elagabalus in as bad a light as possible. We can't now know what the truth really was, but the writers did a very good job of character assassination. One of the easiest ways to sway public opinion against emperors who didn't fit the bill was to suggest that they were sexually deviant. The same charge was levied against Caligula.
It could be true but it may not be.
Not that I'm suggesting that we should start a Elagabalus fan club..

Thanks Ravi for writing another interesting article about history, and Misbah, for sharing it.  I never heard about this emperor.  If all of this is true, he certainly was mad.  It is a wonder that he lasted that long as emperor before he was removed.

Ravi has shared an interesting and amazing story. Even if only some of the reported exploits by Elagabalus actually happened, his rein sounds like a very problematic event.

I can't imagine the throne being handed over to a fourteen year old.  So much responsibility.

But then...where did he get to be soo...Evil.

It's a great story but beheading and dragging through the streets is ine thing I'm glad I wasn't alive to see at the time.
