Frankly, over the past year or so the only thing I have become aware of regarding AI is using it for content writing, creating images and videos, and of course used nefariously to create deep fakes for propaganda in the political world. In other words, I simply was not aware other than using my imagination for what uses it may have, yet am curious.

If you have curiosity, too, take a peek at the following article. It covers 6 topics that may be of interest with a brief intro and a graphic for where countries stand in ranking order. The topic title is also a link for additional information. I was drawn first to Education and then Healthcare

    2. AI in Finance: A New Era of Decision-Making
    3. AI in Transportation: The Road to Autonomous Vehicles
    4. AI in Education: Personalized Learning for All
    5. AI in Entertainment: Crafting Immersive Experiences
    6. AI in Environmental Science: Protecting Our Planet
    7. AI in Cybersecurity: Defending the Digital Frontier

Strangely enough this thread went unanswered.
Strangely because it is one of the most important topics of our time.
AI will change our world just as drastically as the internet (and especially the internet together with the mobile) has done.

As you say AI is not just funny pictures. it will have a drastic impact on development in medicine, science, day to day usage (forget Google), finance, insurance, law suits, crime, food production.

An example. AI models can predict the development of cancer which speeds up diagnosis.
It can also faster read DNA sequences and thus read viruses and make it easier to make vaccines and medicines.
In crime it is used for face recognition. Like with shop lifting. Problem here is, as I saw in a documentary, that the face recognition was based upon the faces of the developers who where mostly white. And so the accuracy for black faces was terrible resulting in many people being falsly arrested.

As we develop AI, an intelligence much faster and intelligent then our own, we have to think about it's consequences. Today it looks like that the development is going faster than making laws. Let alonne thinking about the moral consequences.

More and more jobs that needed intellect will change. As we once said power is knowledge. This will result in a power shift.
Who needs a lawyer if you have an specialized AI Law bot who knows all law suits in history and the book of law? It means that a law suit is not automatically one with the person with the most money, which is the case today. Rich people are seldom in prison. But a poor one is in prison for something you can hardly call a crime.
This law thing is a speculation on my side...

But for instance insurances are always incredibly clever and know more then you do. So what if they know (and you don't) that in your neighbourhood the chance of getting cancer is 400% higher than in the next neighborhood? Surely they will write something in the small print.

AI is already used in algorithms on Social Media. But also by Amazon and other online shops. They know perfectly well what your interests are. And this will only increase.

Hopefully we can use AI to turn the tide on climate change. But AI also needs huge amount of computing power which costs lots of energy.... Energy that is for most part not environmentally friendly.

Thanks for your contribution, Peter!! Appreciated!

Yes, I think AI or should say know AI will 'revolutionize' pretty much everything. The suggested article of some topic areas opened my mind to the point it was boggled pondering the potentials of possibilities tempered by probability. AI will take care of that too, right?

Since initiating myself to AI with this article I have been on and off looking deeper how it relates firstly to me. Of course, one known impact recently introduced we all are experiencing using Google University is it being used for our browser searches with results at the top of the SERPS generated by AI. There is no longer a need in one sense to skim multiple articles to get the main jest. It is provided by Google University.

I've begun looking into the opportunity of remote work by having a home PC with AI capability. What are the opportunities? What PC build would be needed? I am not interested in having a fantastic graphic capability as that would be a rather expensive build and an area beyond my scope. I am at just looking into opportunities for now and they are there.

As for AI, there are a couple of companies who develop AI based language programmers. I'm working remote myself for Telus International as a linguist. You can Google them and go from there.

I wouldn't go into programming. As this is something that will be taken over by AI. In chat GPT you can already ask for a certain code if you need it for your website design.

AI is something that's in the cloud. I don't think it's in the computer. You will have an AI program in a browser that will connect you with a data center.

At the moment everything is open. So if you can think of a creative (I don't mean arts) way to use AI you can have an advantage.
For instance you can already use Chat GPT for writing blog posts. or customer reviews.

AI can help in many ways with developing ideas further. Writing a book about a certain subject you are knowledgeably about is easier then ever. You write a rough sketch and AI will put it in proper grammar English and helps with the structure etc.
Or if you want to know how to build a kiln or a birdhouse, whatever.
You ask and Chat GPT or other AI programs will give you a complete how to do it list.

But AI is not just a handy tool. It will have the intelligence more powerful than a single human being. Question is, will it be self aware? Will it have a moral code? On what basis does it decide to say something or to do something?

An interesting podcast from the Guardian explores the possibility of AI.
          It's called Black Box.
