What is the difference between pride and courage

   in the movie A Knights Tale, William is a peasant who aspires to be a knight and indeed is more noble than some born noble. but when he is found out and is going to be arrested, those who love him tell him to run and he refuses to. the woman who is in love with him tells him it is because of pride that he doesnt run. i disagree. i believe it is courage that is willing to face humiliation and imprisonment rather than betray or deny who he is, what he is...to go against all that he believes in. so what do you think...is it pride or is it courage?

      This statement doesn't say that he achieved Knight's status.
      This would mean that he was pretending to be something he had not achieved, and was apparently in violation of whatever said laws were. It was pride and courage that put him into this position.
      I would agree, it's not pride.
      He already betrayed all that he is and had already gone against what he believed in by pretending to be something he was not, which was pride driven. It doesn't take courage to face humiliation or imprisonment. It takes acceptance and responsibility of self. That takes faith to do. Faith in oneself and what's right.
      Neither.

         in the movie he does eventually achieve Knight status, because Prince Edward Knights him. his actions were always those of a knight or a noble...more so than some nobles. he showed mercy to the prince when another noble thought mercy a weakness.

   I wouldn't say the terms are mutually exclusive. In this case I'd say a little of both. Courage implies fear, pride implies value. If he is scared of staying, and does it anyway it involves courage. Leaving would diminish his value (in his own eyes) and therefore his pride. Ok, I think I managed to confuse myself there. Did that make any sense?

   Pride is sleeping with the ego boost you get making love to a beautiful woman...courage is coming home and bragging to your wife about it
