YouTube: 25 Videos Worth Watching (at least once)

Updated on April 6, 2013

YouTube

YouTube is a most wonderful website with many uses throughout the world. Sure, a primary use is for entertainment purposes, but what many people might not consider is that it is also quite useful for other things. For example, a teacher may use YouTube to search for animations which explain difficult concepts which would be otherwise hard to explain. A company might upload training videos for its employees to watch at their leisure from anywhere in the world. Whatever the purpose, there are certain videos which have become popular internet memes.

The 25 videos with which I present you now are certainly not the best videos on YouTube, nor are they the most widely known internet memes. They are merely videos which form a slice of the internet which I, personally, believe are worth watching (at least once).

#25: This'n'That

YouTube has never been known for a place to showcase card tricks, but this performance of This'n'That is performed expertly and deserves our lowest position, at least, with slot #25.

#24: Sam the Bellhop

Sam the Bellhop is a fantastic card trick which nobody on YouTube can perform better than Bill Malone. His humor is often dry, and sometimes more than cheesy, but you can't beat his performance of Sam the Bellhop.

#23: Chop Cup

Chop Cup tricks come a dime a dozen. Even when performers do it well, it's nothing particularly amazing. Paul Daniels, on the other hand, has perfected the Chop Cup Trick in a way that no other magician has. This performance made 8th place for the most well-performed magic trick on planet earth. Making the final magic-related video in our list, enjoy Paul Daniels' Chop Cup in position #23.

#22: Leeroy Jenkins

The Leeroy Jenkins internet meme has been going strong since 2007 with only a mere mention of the name being required to bring about hilarity in nearly any geek-laden conversation. For more information about the beginnings of Leeroy Jenkins, please see here.

#21: The Rick-Roll

Nothing could be worse than clicking a hyperlink and unexpectedly being forced to watch a portion of Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up. *cringe* In any event, this internet meme has been going strong for over a year now and, while it is slowly on the decline, every now and then you may find yourself getting Rick-Rolled.

I could have selected a different video because this one doesn't allow embedding, but this video, in my opinion, does the most thorough job of explaining the phenomenon. I recommend clicking the "Watch on YouTube" Link.

#20: I Like Turtles

This meme is still going strong nearly two years after it appeared December of 2007. The only thing the poor kid had to do to become the next internet meme was be at the right place, at the right time, looking like a zombie, thinking about turtles.

#19: Cube

This video is hilarious mostly because it proclaims to be a game unlike anything I've ever experienced. Of course, perhaps there's a reason we've never experienced games like this...

"The fun cannot be halted..."

#18: Tetris Master

Staying in the Video Game realm, there's one thing which must never be forgotten; no matter how good you are, someone is always better than you. Like this person, for example.

Note: This video may take a little while to get to the truly amazing part. Skip about half-way through if you're impatient: Trust me, it's worth it.

#17: Reasons why Dungeons and Dragons is the best game ever.

The title explains itself.

"Always loot the bodies of your dead enemies."

#16: I look like a moose!

My favorite scene from Princess Diaries 2.

"Make all the boy moose go Whaaaaaa."

#15: Windows XP and 98 Sounds.

Who would have thought that Windows software came with enough crazy sounds to make something like this? SomethingUnreal, I suppose.

After the video stops, he just goes through where he got all of the sounds. It's kind of dull, so feel free to simply pause the video.

#14: You thought Alice in Wonderland was trippy before?

If you enjoyed #15, you'll enjoy this video much more. This YouTuber compiled this video solely from images and sounds from Disney's Alice in Wonderland.

#13: Ninja Info Cards

Continuing the "Make something new from something not-so-new" theme, #13 is made from snippets of the Naruto Anime.

#12: Beatboxer Supreme

That's right. You can't beatbox like he can.

#11: The Dark Knight - Interrogation Scene

Anyone who has seen this movie knows exactly what's going on in this video. Definitely a hilarious must-watch.

#10: Elevator

Dangerous things happen when two guys decide to take an elevator when they ought to merely have taken the stairs... (Or maybe those are a bad idea too).

#9: Skype Laughter Chain

Laughter? Contagious? No way. Really? I challenge you. Don't laugh at all during this video. You probably can't do it.

#8: Didn't you kill my brother?

Wierd Lyrics? Check.
Bad Dancing? Check.
British Accent? Check.

What more could one want?

#7: Improv Anywhere - Food Court Musical

What would you do if a musical randomly broke out while you were eating lunch at your local mall's food court? It truly must have been something to witness.

#6: Random

How random are you? Probably not as random as this girl. For more AWESOME videos, see CommunityChannel.

#5: Loituma

This video makes the top five because it's rhythmic storyline and the ensuing impossibility of removing the tune from your head once you hear it.

English lyrics Below:

The sound of a polka drifted from my neighbor's
and set my feet a-tapping oh!
Ieva's mother had her eye on her daughter but
Ieva she managed to fool her, you know.
'Cause who's going to listen to mother saying no
when we're all busy dancing to and fro!

Ieva was smiling, the fiddle it was wailing
as people crowded round to wish her luck.
Everyone was hot but it didn't seem to bother
the handsome young man, the dashing buck.
'Cause who's going to mind a drop of sweat
when he's all busy dancing to and fro!

Ieva's mother she shut herself away
in her own quiet room to hum a hymn.
Leaving our hero to have a spot of fun
in a neighbor's house when the lights are dim.
'Cause what does it matter what the old folks say
when you're all busy dancing to and fro!

When the music stopped then the real fun began
and that's when the laddie fooled around.
When he took her home, when the dancing was over
her mother angrily waiting they found.
But I said to her, Ieva, now don't you weep
and we'll soon be dancing to and fro!

I said to her mother now stop that noise
or I won't be responsible for what I do.
If you go quietly and stay in your room
you won't get hurt while your daughter I woo.
'Cause this fine laddie is a wild sort of guy
when he's all busy dancing to and fro!

One thing I tell you is you won't trap me,
no, you won't find me an easy catch.
Travel to the east and travel to the west but
Ieva and I are going to make a match.
'Cause this fine laddie ain't the bashful sort
when he's all busy dancing to and fro.

#4: Awareness Test

This video made the top five because of it's flawless execution of tomfoolery that will fool any Tom I know. Do you think you're an aware kind of person? I can guarantee you won't spot this weirdness the first time you watch.

#3: A Very Potter Musical

C'mon. Admit it. You were wishing Harry Potter would be made into a musical. Well, it was!

"back to wizards and witches, and magical beasts
to goblins and ghosts and to magical feasts
it's all that I love, and it's all that I need at
HOGWARTS, HOGWARTS"

"Totally Awesome!"

#2: Animated in Bed

We've all seen Stop-Motion videos. (read: Wallace and Gromit or Gumby, *cringe*)

This, however, takes the art to a whole new level, making this the number two must-see video in this list.

#1: Validation

Validation, a wonderful short film by hughnewman1024, is a fantastic representation of the importance of making people smile. It's about 14 minutes long excluding the credits and it's worth every minute. If you watch only one video in this list, let this be the one.

Which video did you like most?

Leave a comment in the comment section letting me know which video was your favorite and why. I'm very interested to know.
