Avengers Sequel Rumors! The Most Popular Avengers 2 Movie Rumors Already Circulating!

Updated on September 19, 2013

It hasn't been very long since The Avengers hit theaters and became the ultimate king of comic book movies and superhero films, dethroning WB and Christopher Nolan's former reigning champ, The Dark Knight. Even Nolan's new Dark Knight Rises has failed to rise above The Avengers and it's legendary predecessor.

There's no doubt that Marvel Studios and Disney has paved the way and changed comic book movies forever with Joss Whedon's The Avengers movie that came out just a few months ago back in May. You figure the hype would die down a bit, but you're wrong. It's only begun!

Even only a few months after The Avengers smashed box office records, rumors have already spread like a virus. Sure, it's way too early to know what's really in the works for the sequel. I mean, Avengers 2 has been confirmed for a May 2015 release.

However, these Avenger sequel rumors are a hot topic of discussion among many comic book fans, and it's just plain fun to yabber about. The real thing is that, although many of these speculations will end up being false, a few will end up being true.

And the possibilities are awesome! If what's being discussed about with Joss Whedon and other major studios, Marvel could once again make movie history!

Here are the most popular Avengers 2 movie rumors being discussed now! Enjoy fellow comic fans!

Andrew Garfield in The Amazing Spider-Man (Sony Pictures)

Spider-Man May Make An Appearance!

That's right, folks. Andrew Garfield of this years The Amazing Spider-Man may show up in the Avengers 2 as his character of Peter Parker. Although Sony holds the rights to the Webhead, both Marvel and Sony have expressed interest in making movie history by crossing over characters much like the comics do.

Of course, it would just be a cameo if this rumor pans out true, but I think a lot of movie studios are jumping on board the buzz and potential that their superhero properties can do. Call it greed or vision, but I have no doubt that many of the big studios are hearing that Ka-Ching sound multiple times. You'll see what I mean in the next rumor.

As for me, I'm all for it. I think it would be cool to somehow effectively unite the Marvel Cinematic Universe, despite the mess of various studios holding rights to various Marvel Comic characters.

X-Men Characters May Also Make Cameos!

KA-CHING! KA-CHING! Can you hear it too? Well, 20th Century FOX sure can, and another one of the weirdest Avengers 2 rumors is that maybe a few of those lovable mutants from The X-Men may be slipped into the Avengers sequel. Naw, no, really?

Sure, it's possible! Actually, a lot of things are possible. Sure, FOX owns the rights to all things pertaining to Marvel's mutie characters in films, but here's the deal and this isn't a rumor.

X-Men film producer Lauren Schuler Donner has expressed interest in crossing over the two universes. “I would love it,” she said. “I personally have close ties to Marvel because of Kevin Feige. Kevin worked for me. But to take our characters and mingle them in the way that they were written … yeah, absolutely.”

KA-CHING! Of course, she would love the possibility. However, the funny part is that Kevin Feige, President of Production at Marvel Studios, has suggested that Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch should be added into the ensemble.

With Sony expressing interest in plopping Spidey with a cameo in Whedon's The Avengers sequel, I doubt that FOX is dumb enough to not try to jump on board the possibility of cashing in big time and giving their comic book movie properties a little more juice.

Ms. Marvel or The Wasp May Assemble In Avengers 2!

Yes, Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow was pretty much the only kick ass superhero team member of The Avengers in the first film, and even director Joss Whedon noticed that the flick was majorly an ensemble of males on a high protein diet. The director, who will be returning to direct The Avengers sequel, has expressed that he would like another female superhero in the sequel.

Whedon has expressed desire for either The Wasp or Ms. Marvel to assemble in the Avengers sequel. Some think this is a strange Avengers 2 rumor to float around about Ms. Marvel, but it could be possible.

Here's the reasoning behind this speculation. We all know that Marvel Studios wants to incorporate their more cosmic characters in their cinematic universe. This is evident by using such characters like Thor and introducing Thanos in the first movie at the end credits.

Now, it's no secret that Marvel Studios is pushing ahead with a Guardians of the Galaxy film to bring even more cosmic goodness to the world of Marvel movies. So why not Ms. Marvel?

Another rumor about Ms. Marvel in the Avengers sequel is that Emily Blunt may play her.I remember her from the movie Dan in Real Life, in which she played Ruthie "Pig Face" Draper. Emily Blunt is also in the newly released Looper, starring her, Joseph Gordon Levitt and Bruce Willis.

Blunt did audition for the role of Black Widow, but lost to Scarlett Johansson. This could make her a prime choice to step into the boots of the popular comic character - Carol Danvers aka Ms. Marvel. Emily Blunt is gorgeous enough to play the character and wouldn't look strange with blonde locks.

As for The Wasp, it's pretty clear the reasoning behind this rumor. Most of us comic book fans know that she is one of the original members of the Avengers in the comics.

However, it's also been confirmed that an Ant-Man movie will be released November 6th of 2015. This will be after The Avengers Sequel. Could both Henry Pym (Ant-Man) and Janet van Dyne, who is the wife of Henry Pym and later becomes The Wasp, make an end credit appearance? That's possible also.

Okay, so it's highly likely that The Wasp won't be assembling to fight some bad guys in the sequel. I'm sure the Ant-Man film will cover the origin of Ant-Man and Wasp, but they can still introduce the characters of Henry Pym and his lovely wife, Janet van Dyne, in the Avengers sequel, right?

The Falcon (Marvel Comics)

The Falcon May Join The Avengers!

Okay, if you haven't read up on it yet, it's already been confirmed that the popular comic character, The Falcon, is confirmed to be in the Captain America sequel. The official title of Cap's new movie will be Captain America: The Winter Soldier!

As for the actor stepping into this iconic and historical role in the world of comics (the character of Sam Wilson aka The Falcon is mainstream comics' first African-American superhero), it's Anthony Mackie. Because of this confirmation, rumors began spreading that the Falcon may fly his way from The Winter Soldier to the highly anticipated Avengers sequel.

It could be possible. After all, Kevin Feige did reveal that there will be some team changes for the sequel. In my poll in the hub What Avenger Do You Want To See Assembled In The Next Avengers 2 Movie Sequel? the Black Panther was voted the most wanted by fans.

Agent Coulson (Disney/Marvel Studios)

Agent Coulson May Return As The Vision!

This one has been a pretty popular one out of the Avengers sequel rumors. Many loved the character of Agent Coulson, and he did become a fan favorite to a lot.

His death in the Avengers first movie was not well taken, and either fans really couldn't believe it or refused to let go. So somewhere this crazy rumor started that Agent Coulson would come back as the popular Marvel Avenger - The Vision!

After all, he does kinda look like the comic character if you put android make up on him, but this rumor of Agent Coulson returning as The Vision is highly unlikely. Why do I say this?

Well, it's already been confirmed the there will be a S.H.E.I.L.D television series produced by director of The Avengers, Joss Whedon, and the show will be all about Agent Coulson. So, I highly doubt that this fan favorite will become The Vision in Avengers 2. The sequel may not even have The Vision in it.

I think it would be cool if The Vision was in the sequel. Visually, he would be an exciting character to see.

If The Vision does get to the silver screen with The Avengers, he will most likely be played by another actor instead of Clark Gregg who plays Agent Coulson. The only question is would he be in The Avengers 2 or 3?

I'm gonna shoot for The Avengers 3, since it seems that Ant-Man and The Wasp won't be assembling in costume until the third Avengers flick. But who knows, right?

Yes, these are all just speculations and rumors, and the ones here are only just a few of them. There are plenty more out there. Some may end up happening. Some may not, but the possibilities are fun to think about as well as talk about.

UPDATE!

For those of you who called it on Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch assembling in the Avengers sequel, bravo! Yes, it's confirmed that the mutant twins will be in the next Avengers movie.

As for the villain...it's Ultron!

Even though Black Panther clearly won the poll in my which Avenger do you want to see next in the Avengers sequel, it seems Marvel and Disney will hold off the character for possibly Marvel's Phase Three! You visit the link to see the poll results.
