Nanny McPhee Film Review

Nanny McPhee, another film that I sat down and watched with my kids and it was fun, although a British film that had all the markings of British history and all that posh era stuff that just looks dated. This film stars Emma Thompson as Nanny McPhee who is sort of like a magical Mary Poppins without the good looks at first, instead of looking after two kids, she has 7 to manage an they are really naughty children as they have got rid of 17 nannies before McPhee arrives and they think they are invincible to all nannies that try to make them behave.

We soon learn in this film that their mother had died and so it was up to the father Colin Firth to try and support him and his kids, but he's failing miserably and needs help to support his kids and that's why his Aunt Stitch has said that if he gets married, then she'll support him with money so that he can keep his kids and his house and that's generally what the movie is about. A Father getting to know his kids again.

The film has some funny moments when good old Angela Lansbury turns up as Aunt Stitch, although she is blind as a bat, she mistakes a dancing donkey for one of her nieces and then when he tries to meet up with this old dolly tart to marry her o save his finances, the kids do everything they can to stop it with worm sandwiches and frogspawn tea.

Although this film is based on a series of books I haven't read, it makes no difference a you can watch the films and not really read the books, but I suppose that's up to you.

A second film has just come out called Nanny McPhee and the big bang which I'll review when I've watched it!

But go and watch the first Nanny McPhee movie as it is fun family entertainment, although it is the British kind...
