My interview with Actress, Siobhan Fallon Hogan- of Forest Gump, Men in Black and much more.
The talented and accomplished Siobhan!
Syracuse Native, wife and mother of three children, Siobhan Fallon is making her mark on modern day cinema. She has starred in over thirty movies and over ten T.V. shows.
She was very easy to interview as I found her to be completely down to earth and approachable. Siobhan does not seem to take herself too seriously and told me that she feels blessed to have the life she lives and to be where she is professionally. As a devote Catholic and someone who is dedicated to her family, she gives credit to her faith and family for all of her success.
As you will see later, she also has a whacky side to her that made this experience, a lot of fun!
More about our guest.
Dorothy Harris, the one and only!
Her professional life.
Q. I loved you in Men in Black and as Dorothy Harris in Forrest Gump!
Of the roles that you have played, what are some of your favorites?
A. "I loved my role in New In Town- It was so fun to play a Minnesotan. I also loved my role in Dancer in the Dark because it was a very serious one. Men in Black was also great because I based it off a Syracuse girl. "
Q. Who were some of your favorite stars, directors, and writers to work with?
A. "Lauren Bacall (first and foremost), Harry Connick Jr., Renee Zelwegger, Samuel L Jackson, Tom Hanks, Vince Vaughn and Ben Gazzara".
Tom Hanks is a great guy, great sense of humor. He always is a huge part of the cast but he has no ego. He is so classy and generous!
Vince Vaughn- A regular guy, very funny and nice.
Q. I have to ask, the immortal Lauren Bacall... what was it like to star in more than one movie with her?
A. "Lauren and I became very good friends. I had my three children with me in Sweden where we filmed. Sinead was 11 weeks old, Peter was 3 and Bernadette was 6. Once we went out to eat and she said "Did you ever think we would become friends?" and I said,"No, did you?" and she said "No, because your so Catholic with that brood of children around you!" We both burst out laughing- she was hilarious and a all class!"
Q. Do you have any humorous stories from the set, whether or not they involved a fellow star?
A. "One night on New In Town, Renee, Harry and I laughed so hard about a story Renee told about a kid that vomited in High School in the hallway. The kids just walked around it in the hallway like it was normal. When you are doing night shoots, a story that might not necessarily be funny in daylight is out of control funny at night because it is like being at a slumber party - you are slap happy- and at a slumber party. The parents want you to shut up and on a night shoot, the director and A.D. want you to shut up so the tension of the exhaustion and stress felt by the powers that be, heightens the insanity. And of course, everything becomes that much funnier. I laughed so hard they had to redo my makeup."
Q.You have worked with some of the biggest stars in the world, from Lauren Bacall, to Tom Hanks, Nicole Kidman, Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, Jerry Seinfeld, Haley Joel Osmet, and many more! Yet you seem very grounded, family oriented and down to Earth. I feel like I am interviewing my neighbor. How have you remained so kind, personable and frankly, human?
A."That is very kind of you to say. I am forever grateful that I get a chance to work in this business and know that it is a gift. "
Q. I, like you, grew up in Syracuse N.Y. I can't imagine being in the blockbusters and modern day classics that you have. Since I know that it must be amazing, was there a time when the reality of your career and stardom finally struck you, and you felt that you had landed in a wonderful dream or did you always know that fame was coming?
A." When I got on SNL- I called home to tell my parents and my mother was home but my father was golfing at the Cazenovia Country Club and was on the 9th hole. I called the clubhouse and made them call him in. I said "Dad, I got on Saturday Night Live!" And he yelled to all the people in the club bar "Siobhan just got on Saturday Night Live. Then, he said "Great Job Siobhany you worked hard and you did it- now keep your head on straight- I gotta go finish my game- love ya honey" and he hung up."
Q. Do you remember ever being more nervous on one movie set than any other?
A. I don't get nervous. Set ups take a long time and by the time you are called to set ,all of the nerves a gone
Q. Also you worked with Bjork in Dancer in the Dark. Since she is such a rare and unique talent and person, what was that like?
A. Bjork is a fantastic person and talent. She had her son with her and he was a great kid. I loved working with her.
Q. What future or soon to be released project of yours are you most excited about?
A. Wayward Pines- Fox May 14th
(Me) That looks great, and I am looking forward to it! M. Night Shyamalan's newest project includes you of course, Matt Dillion, Melissa Leo, Toby Jones, Juliette Lewis, Terrance Howard, and Shannyn Sossaman. That is such a great cast for a new T.V. show!
A look at Siobhan's newest project!
Siobhan's personality and who she really is.
Now to the personal part.
Q.For starters, what is your favorite color, food, Movie you were in, movie you were not in?
A. "Green, Sushi, New in Town, and The Glass Castle."
Q. What do you enjoy doing most with your kids?
A. "Going on to Cazenovia, NY in the summer."
Q. What actor/actress was the closest or favorite to meet, as far as your immediate family is concerned?
A. "Lauren Bacall. We were in Sweden together for 6 weeks. The kids didn't get how amazing she was at the time. Bernadette now 20, has read her autobiography, in which we are all mentioned (my family etc.)."
Me- " That is amazing! If I were to do a top 10 best actresses of all time list, she would be on it. It is quite fantastic to hear you describe her as a friend and a kind, regular person."
Q. Was there a teacher, actress/actor, relative, or event, that lit the spark that inspired you to enter the world of Hollywood?
A.My Aunt Sheila Shattuck was in all the plays in Syracuse when I was growing up- going to the Pompeian players Spring Musical every year was a huge highlight- inspiring!
Q. The Pompeian Players? Wow. Was Msgr. Borgognoni with them at that time?
A. Yes Father was the head
Q. Liam Neeson drove a forklift and then was a sales man before taking acting lessons. Did you have another field or did you almost enter one? If you were not an actress what would you like to be doing for employment/career?
A. "I was a clown at Birthday parties, a waitress, a receptionist, an ESL teacher- I was bad at all of them, so I am an actress by default."
Q. What are the 3 (or so) most important these to you?
A. Family, Faith, and Fun
Q. Do you have one part of your overall belief system that is nearest and dearest to your heart?
A. Stick with your gut and don't be afraid to say NO. You have to be able to look yourself in the mirror about choices you make. Often the $ is a temptation, but its not worth it.
Q. What is one this that your fans probably do not know about you that you want them to know?
A. I am a nut- kidding-maybe not
Q. What is one thing that your fans probably do not know about acting or Hollywood that you want them to know?
A. When I work I love it so much. It really is the opposite of work; it is like a big play date.
Q. Do you have one charitable or political cause that you want your fans to know about?
A. Jason's Dreams for Kids (For Kids with cancer).
