Updated on July 8, 2017

Great Role Models

Female models these days are hot, sexy and skinny but talented. They are role models for our children and with the society being “thin is in” I wanted to bring out that not all female models in bikini’s, bathing suits, panties and bra’s have to be super thin. In fact, they can be a “normal shaped” women and be a beautiful model. Nowadays, plastic surgery, enhanced lips, eye lifts, check implants and breast implants are the rage. Well, I wanted to highlight the top 5 female models that have been better role models to our children over the years. The young look up to so many and these models with talent have prevailed. Whether they are in my lifetime or my parents, these top models genuinely are supermodels and represent the name “model” perfectly.

The definition of model which is sometimes called a mannequin, is a person who is employed for the reason of displaying and promoting clothing, fashion or other related products and for advertising or promoting works of art.

Modeling Tips on How To Look Like a Supermodel

Top 5 Models

Types of models; fashion, glamour, fitness, bikini, fine art, lingerie and body-part models. But the supermodels are the ones that are paid the highest, they do cover magazines, fashion shows and many more modeling jobs. All girls strive to make it to the level of “supermodel” stardom but only a few make it. Over the years and decades, here are the top female models that have achieved “supermodel” status.

Top 5 Female Models

  1. Tyra Banks
  2. Heidi Klum
  3. Twiggy (Leslie Hornby)
  4. Iman
  5. Milla Jovovich

I realize there are a lot more models that are not on this list; however, if you do your research, you will find these women are artistic, smart, fierce, and sexy. I am sure it’s a debate but I prefer to just highlight, not just the top paid mode, but female models that display qualities beyond making a lot of money.

Tyra Banks, American

Tyra started modeling in the 11th grade when she was 17 years of age. Thus, her journey started in Paris doing runway modeling. She later posed for Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue and is most famous for her work as a Victoria's Secret model. Tyra was the first African American woman chosen for the cover of Victoria’s Secret catalog. Tyra retired from modeling in May 2005 to concentrate on her television career. Her last runaway walk was 2005 for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

Tyra Banks started her TV shows; Tyra Banks talk show and the “American’s Next Top Model” program that has helped other young women start their career as a model. In addition, this show is educating people all over the world about modeling and what it takes to be a model. Moreover, she is an author of a book entitled Tyra’s Beauty, Inside and Out, the book is advertised for women to make the most of their natural beauty.

Tyra has much talent, she is smart, wise in the ways to promote herself and overall she is a gorgeous model that is not stick thin, but beautiful in her own skin. She is a great role model to young girls. I think she is attractive, fierce young woman.

Heidi Klum, Germany

Heidi started her modeling career through a contest, which in 1992 she won and started her modeling career in New York. Klum has been on the cover of fashion magazines, appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue and worked as an Angel for Victoria Secret’s line. Klum also did body painting for Joanne Gair from 1999 to 2006.

Klum is a model that has accomplished other staggering achievements, such as, actresses, television host, business woman, fashion designer, television producer, artist, and occasional singer. Klum has two fragrances and has designed makeup for Victoria’s Secret as part of the “Very Sexy Makeup Collection.” This is only to mention a few business ventures but she continues to grow and develop many other businesses.

Klum is influential force today, plus she is vivacious, strong, and confident and a truly talented woman that has made millions. Her millions of dollars are not only from her perfect body but from her brain as well. She is one model that has worked hard to achieve the millions she has made. Heidi Klum is a proper role model for kids today.

Twiggy (Leslie Hornby or Twiggy Lawson) UK

Twiggy is an English model, she was beautiful, at the tender age of 16 she became the first prominent teenage model. She is known for her large, round eyes, long eyelashes and tiny build. Twiggy is one of the most famous models of all times. Even though, her career started in the 60’s she is still today in the fashion world, very famous. Twiggy is her childhood nickname and when she became famous, she kept it. Twiggy was the “face of 66’s” in England, she later went to New York in 1967 to continue her modeling career. Twiggy changed the world and fashion industry with her short cropped hair and large round eyes. She is an icon today and changes the industry as we know it. In addition, to her short hair, Twiggy weight 91 lbs and changed the world of high fashion with her “skinny” looks and long dynamic eyelashes. She started the modeling trend “thin is in” and thus, she started that trend late in the 60’s.

Twiggy left modeling but has accomplished so much more, an acting career, which she won two Golden Globes, and then she launched her singing career. After singing, she married and started a family. Twiggy has been acting and singing still and she is a gifted artist, no doubt.

Twiggy is working still, here in American and in London; she is exceptional in her talent and an icon for all young girls out there that want to become models. Work hard, then work harder and continue to work hard as she has done. Her hard work has paid off because even as of today, she is modeling.

Iman (Abdulmajid), Somali

Iman or Iman Mohamed Abdulmajid, she was recruited by an American photographer in 1975, which she moved to New York to start her modeling career in 1976. Iman did a lot of work for Vogue and she recalls her experience as a house model for Yves Saint Laurent's African Queen couture collection as the most memorable moment of her modeling career. Iman modeled through most of the 70’s and some 80’s. She is a high fashion model that is beautiful woman which is amazingly talented.

Iman left modeling to pursue her makeup cosmetic line. She is the CEO of the IMAN Global Chic and cosmetic line that you are able to purchase through the Home Shopping Network. Iman speaks over 5 other languages and is a spokesperson for Keeping Child Alive, an organization that provides medication to children affected by HIV/AIDS.

Iman is a private individual that has contributed much to organizations and her modeling career, along with cosmetics and helping others. Iman is a powerful role model to kids today and always because she is intelligent, speaks several languages and helps many children throughout the world.

Milla Jovovich, UkraineUSSR

Milla Jovovich started her modeling career at the tender age of 11 with Revlon. Although she was born in Ukraine she was raised in American. Milla worked for Revlon, L’Oreal, Banana Republic, Christian Dior, Donna Karen and Versace. Milla is a wonderful and bright model and during her time, she rocked the fashion world and came out on top.

She left modeling in 1988 to pursue her acting career. Milla has many talents; she is an actor and a singer. Not just any singer, Milla published a musical album, The Divine Comedy in 1994. In addition, she has created a clothing line featured around the world but also has her own production company, Creature Entertainment.

Milla, started young and learned a lot during her time as a model. She was clever in her adventures and grew fast as a high fashion model. She was dedicated and determined to be the paramount model that she could be and still is today. She has been dexterous and continues to make an impact in the modeling, music and film world today. She is an intelligent role model to children today and young women which should study her and understand her attributes to become a model as astonishing as she is.

This article recaps high fashion supermodels that have gone against the grain to succeed in an industry that wants skinny, thin women instead of smart, health women for models. As our young children develop into beautiful butterflies, let’s not forget that it’s not about being thin, it’s about healthy bodies, smart, curious minds and a sense of confidence that is portrayed in all that you do in life.

We all have jobs, like a model to an office worker, we all have to be good at what we do and these women listed above are good at their job. The work hard to have a picturesque outward appearance to look good in bathing suits, panties, bra’s and all sorts of clothes. To be a model is hard work and to be a role model is even harder. These women are great role models to the young girls today and I hope that we will have more female models like them in our future.

great research on these models and how they can be a reminder to the society that we don't need to be stick thin or pushing to the point where we are making ourselves ill.

Be yourself is how it should be.... Just keeping up with a great exercise routine that can aid in achieving weight loss to a size that one feels comfortable in, should be enough. The important thing be healthy.Be determined in full filling your dreams no matter what they may be.
