Which was the best decade for music and what was the best band of that era?

    60's, 70's, 80's, 90's or 00's?

    The 60s.
The 70s was a musical wasteland until punk injected some life into it.
The 80s faded out with nothing worthwhile musically until, Oasis, Blur and The Verve took music by the scruff of the neck and woke it up in the 90s.
This new century hasn't produced anything musically inspiring.

I don't think the 70's and 80's were all bad, I used to like The Doors, ELO and Led Zeppelin and then New order, Joy Division and INXS.
But yes the 60's was a great era with the Beatles, Stones, Bob Dylan, Otis Redding etc.
I didn't actually think much of the 90's apart from Pearl Jam, Radiohead and the Smashing Pumpkins.
You're right about the 00's though MickS, awful stuff so far, couldn't name any!

70's & Definitely Pink Floyd, though Pink Floyd was active from 1965 to 1996.

See, my problem is, I can easily combine all of the decades when I make compilations for myself.  To others, it's a chance to tease me about my "random" tastes, but i'd cherish a radio station that covered ALL of the bases.
