It really depends. I like all sort of music. However, when I think of metal music, I think of alot of screaming. I like to be able to understand the words of the song. But, I won't dismiss it. If it has a great beat, I will check it out. Typically though, it isn't want I go for. Not to mention, it is so gruff and aggressive, it has a tendency to make me crabby.

I have been listening to metal for 30 years and the 80's metal still blows away any metal of today. I have seen over 100 metau concerts.

I agree with barbergirl28 for today's metal where there is a lot of screaming, but not from the 80's metal. Groups like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and Ozzy Osbourne sang well and the singer of Judas Priest (Rob Halford) has opera training, so he probably would have done just as well in opera.

@chasemillis - I am glad to see you finally got into metal. LOL

Indeed I do, and I have been listening to metal since 1980.

Why? Because it rules, that's why! smile

Yes, I like metal a lot.  I like it because there's so much diversity.  You don't get stuck with the same sounding thing over and over again.  There's ridiculously technical metal and also really simple stuff; metal has a style for every mood.

I like it very much and this is type of music and art in general that speaks to me the most. I know some people are quite prejudiced about this music, but I believe they are narrow-minded people anyway.

In my opinion this is one one of the few genres of music left out there in which musicianship still matters and exists the other genres like that coming to mind being jazz and classical.
