Western: any Clint Eastwood because there's always a good mix of action &
                   humour and because he's handsome!
Romantic: As Good as it Gets with Jack Nicholson & Helen Hunt because it's not
just slushy, it has a good background story, and they're both great actors
Thriller:   The Bourne Trilogy - fast action and it makes you think
and The French Connection for good intrigue and acting
Children's: The Dark Crystal - animated, funny and charming
Musical:  old style - High Society for great actors and singing
new style - Mama Mia, for a great adaptation, humour and relationship
I hate horror movies as I like to be entertained not scared to death!  This was a difficult choice and I'll now go away and think of lots of others I should have mentioned!
