25 years ago I would've said Metallica... at that time I would've willingly taken a bullet for any of the band members. Haha.
But then came the Black Album (which is not a bad record in and of itself, I'm just sick of it), the sub-par LOAD and RELOAD combo, the symphony orchestra, and, well, ST. ANGER...nuff said... They've redeemed themselves somewhat with DEATH MAGNETIC but still, it's not the same.
On the other hand, Megadeth have been truckin' along quite nicely, even their sub-par records (i.e. CRYPTIC WRITINGS thru WORLD NEEDS A HERO) have their share of listenable tracks on 'em, and Dave Mustaine seemed like a really cool mo-fo when I met him two years ago so nowadays I'd have to say I'm a member of Team Megadeth.
"...And Justice For All," "Ride the Lightning," and "Master of Puppets" are all heavy metal masterpieces, while I don't know as much about Megadeth as I do about Metallica, I would say the amount of great material from Metallica surpasses that from Megadeth.
Yes, Load/ReLoad and St. Anger were garbage. The S&M album wasn't bad at all, and Death Magnetic was a solid 8/10. "Lulu" notwithstanding, Metallica has potential to release another monster of an album this next year, while "Thirteen" from Megadeth wasn't too impressive, in my opinion.

Help me add to my CD album shelf. What are your five favorite albums of all time?An album is a compilation of several song recordings, rather than single MP3-4-5 files that you can buy individually on Itunes.
