Does a ballet body make the ballerina or does the ballerina make the ballet body?
A ballet body definitely doesn't make a ballerina. You don't have to be the stereotyped 'stick thin' to dance beautifully. All you have to do is have the heart and passion to dance (even through the hard times), and you'll be good, regardless your 'body type'.
Both. Ballet technique sculpts long, lean muscles and a beautiful posture which can really transform anyone's body.
However, the reality is that you must have a certain kind of "ballet body" if you want to be employed by the major ballet companies. No amount of ballet training can change your height, or the length of your legs compared to your body, or how long your neck is, or how curvy you are, and if you don't match the director's idea of the ideal dancer, you're out of luck, no matter how good a dancer you are.
