What Is Up With Duck Dynasy? Why?

You know I just keep getting amazed at how popular Duck Dynasty is. How in the world did this ever come to be one of the most popular TV shows ever? Makes me wonder. What do you think about Duck Dynasty? Why is it so popular? What do you think? Do you watch this show? Why? Or why not?

I'm interested in following this question. I have no idea what the appeal of the show is and why I seem to be the only one of my friends who doesn't watch it. I was in a hotel once and saw maybe 3 minutes of it and turned it. Definitely not for me.

Thanks for your answer. I too am very interested in what people have to say about Duck Dynasty.

Most of the people I know who watch it are religious conservatives who are happy there's a reality show on that represents their values. The Duck Dynasty cast are pro God and guns, and anti Obama.
Even if I agreed with that I have no idea why anyone would want to follow this show. They come off as ignorant as any other reality stars.

Do they seem ignorant to you? I don't get that. The dad has a master's degree in education, The CEO of the company (third son, Willie) has a business degree. Honestly, I've never heard them bash Obama.

Simply google "duck dynasty obama" There opinions are everywhere. I said they "come off as" ignorant. Not saying they are but 5 minutes of listening to them and I feel like I'm watching any other reality show.

Many many celebrities express their opinions.  Joy Behar, Oprah, Sean Penn ...why not Phil Robertson?

Never said he shouldn't. I said that those opinions contribute to followers. They do with everyone right?

I suppose I don't get the 'ignorant' comment.  Several of them hold college degrees.   Some of them hold multiple degrees.    Not only are they 'book smart', they're very smart about the outdoors.  Is it their political leanings that you dislike?

Nope because I agree with some of them. To me they are just the "redneck" version of snooki. Everything that comes out their mouths sounds scripted for reality tv. I dislike most reality tv so it's not just DD.

Really?     That's interesting, as I see them as sort of the "anti-snooki"  Ha!    I'd wager that if you could get Snooki and Phil Robertson in a room together, they would have very little in common to talk about.   I doubt they agree on many issues.

Never watched it, don't plan to ever watch it. Even the promos for it that come on during shows I *do* watch, are irritating as hell. I can't imagine watching it for an entire hour.

    I love it.
It's fun to watch, and it contains no sex or vulgarity or violence.
There's not much else like it out there.

I can relate to it much more than I can to, say, Jersey Shore or Real Housewives Of New Jersey (or whatever it's called).    And, thankfully, I can relate to it far more than I can Honey Boo Boo.

Yes, I do happen to be a conservative and a christian.

I do watch it and the first time I watched it was sort of accidental. And to be honest, I am not an outdoor girl or a "redneck" (their phrase) but I love the show. It is about family, it is funny. You can watch it with your kids and it always ends in a family dinner.

So much of TV is crap and this show is delightful. The brothers are funny and while I have no illusions that it is really reality--it is a good show to watch and just sit back and enjoy.

These guys might seem like they are country boobs but they are well-educated. Phil has a Master's Degree in education, Willie has a degree in business. They are having fun at the expense of many uptight liberals and they are laughing all the way to the bank.

I love the show.     It's setting records for all the right reasons.   Wonderful show.    We need more like it.   Certainly more like this, and less that relies of the shock value of blood and guts, graphic sex and vulgarity to draw ratings.
