   Who is your favorite superhero to grace the big screen?
   
   With the recent success of comic book adaptation to hit theaters in recent years, there's little doubt that the production of these flicks will be stopping any time soon. Who is your favorite hero to receive a feature-lengthed film?

   No, thanks to DC Comics NEW 52 which began in September 2011, my favorite DC heroes no longer exist per se. As a result, I am boycotting DC Comics and Warner Bros. films using the post Flashpoint/NEW 52 characters.

      Correction: I should have said they made "Superman" into an anti-capitalist Occupy Wall Streeter, not a a 1% Percenter. I wrote it backwards.

      Given Superman's morals (and his story's similarities to Jesus) I find it hard to imagine him fighting for wall street bankers.

      In the 1930s, they had him more of a vigilante and round on war profiteers. For the bulk of his 75 year history, he was thought of as a Big Boy Scout. He fought for TRUTH, JUSTICE, and the AMERICAN WAY and was more of a conservative than a liberal.

      I disagree with your Nazi assertion, since I don't think anyone is going to say fighting Nazis is controversial. Most would agree that Nazis are evil, but now readers are turning away because they feel alienated over the writer's ideological stand.

      Superman is also an immigrant who grew up in an adopted middle class family. With the positions modern conservatives have taken on immigration and their defense of the 1%, I still don't see any version of Superman siding with them.

      If I may ask, MT, when did you begin reading comic books. I started in 1965 when virtually ALL of DC's characters would have been considered conservative. Green Arrow's transformation into the token liberal occurred about 4 years later.

      I said 'modern' conservatives. The right wing has changed significantly since the birth of comic books. Many past republican presidents, going back from Eisenhower, would be described as liberal by today's standards.

      Indeed you did. But my point is, the character was historically conservative. It was the modernization of the character that drove me away from collecting and reading comics. 45 years of emotional investment...POOF!

   I am also not a fan at all of the New 52. Comics also seem to be pushing political agendas heavier these days, which is not what the average reader wants. I just want to see some action and have a good story, not know the writer's stance on controversial topics.

      I thought it was the height of hypocrisy to have the new "Superman" be a 1% Percenter going after an evil "tycoon" for making too much money. The whole purpose of the New 52 was to gin up new readers to make more money!!!

      That's why I stopped reading them. They're pushing a political agenda, instead of just giving us a way to escape reality. People read comics to avoid that crap, not to take a political stance.

      Exactly! Comics were created as an escape. That's what I hate about the latest bunch of DC comic book movies...trying to set the characters in a realistic world. If people want realism, they should open their eyes and look at the world around them.

      Don't comics have roots in political agendas? Superman, Wonder Woman and Captain America largely started as anti-nazi, pro-america serials.

   I agree with Movie Arbiter. I mean, what's with the female Thor nonsense? I just want to read the comics of my youth, when I used to "borrow" my brother's Superman comics and read them lol. They seem to be sacrificing the story by trying to ride whatever current political agenda or wave that they think will help them sell the most. It's distracting. In any case, my fav superheros to get movies are Superman, Hulk and Wolverine.

      This post made me laugh, as my siblings used to "burrow" from my comic stash too. I agree with your nostalgic views and think that if they feel the need to reboot, let's draw on some of the classics that made people pick up comics in the first place.

      I used to always watch Godzilla when I was little. We just saw the reboot in theaters and it was pretty decent. There were some flaws, but it's a much welcomed return to the king of the monsters, especially after Tri-Star butchered their 1997 attempt

   My favorite superhero is Superman, but his movies have been kind of spotty. I grew up on the Christopher Reeve versions, which were great, but Superman Returns and Man of Steel just didn't measure up for me the way the Marvel movies have. So, my favorite superhero movie is the Avengers, but I'll still be looking forward to each new DC movie. Particularly Wonder Woman, who has been offensively underutilized in film and television.
