I have several movies that I enjoy watching during the holidays. They are not particularly oriented to Christmas but they are films that tell stories about hope, redemption, and finding light during the darkest time of they year.

Movies that are specific to the holidays that I watch; "The Bishop's Wife" with Cary Grant. There is an element of fantasy that appeals to me. "Miracle on 34th Street ", the 1947 version, maybe because that was the year I was born.

The "Christmas Carol" is also a favorite, but there are a couple of versions I like, The musical "Scrooge" with Albert Finney and "Scrooge" with Alistair Sim. The second film was re-released under the title "A Christmas Carol". In these versions I feel Ebeneezer expresses redemption better than the others. This is subjective on my part, I am sure others would disagree.

The other two films I like watching during the holidays are "The Thirteenth Warrior" and "The Shawshank Redemption". The first provides a story on men who share little in common and overcome their prejudices to come together to defeat an evil that should be nameless. The second shows two men who share a kind of brotherhood where both find redemption by practicing common decency towards others.

I can watch these films whenever I want, as I have them on DVD, but I seem to always watch them during the holidays.

You have a nice selection of Christmas movies and I never saw The Thirteenth Warrior but I'm looking forward to watching it. Thank you for responding to my question.

It's a Wonderful Life and Dr. Zhivago. Never get time to see them straight through with household chores to be done but I will make an early New Year's Resolution to do so this year
