For those in their late 50s to early 60s, what is your analysis of the song, MacArthur's Park?

Such a tragic story, that poor cake left out in the rain. (Sigh)

It was a dumb song and did not make much sense.

Jimmy Webb wrote the song MacArthur Park to describe his relationship with Susie Horton. Most of the lyrics describe actual things he saw in MacArthur Park in Los Angeles, where they used to meet. The cake left out in the rain was their relationship failing, and melting away, and his fear that he might never find another woman to love him.

It was such a beautifully haunting song.  I love Richard Harris's rendition of this song the best.  He conveys the sadness of the song.
