For those of you who are unfamiliar with the show, saved by the Bell was a 90s tv series aimed towards kids and teens.    The show followed the misadventures of Zach Morris, who occasionally broke the fourth wall, and his friends at Bayside high school.   The show wasn't great, and it was obviously unrealistic to how high school actually was most of the time  but it had likable characters, and there quite a few social commentary episodes too that resonated with a lot of what teens were going through at the time.

Overall, the show gained a cult following and even spawned two spin offs as well.

Now with the rise of streaming services, NBC plans to reboot the show on their streaming network aptly dubbed the "peacock.".   No joke.

The reboot is going to take place years after the original ended where Zach Morris is now governor of California and he supposedly passed a bill to close down a lot of low funded schools, which caused various students be transferred from those Schools to the highest rated ones academically in the state.    One of those students is a trans girl, who's essentially a teenage boy who identifies as a girl, will be act as the new lead of the show.  She will be played by transgender actress Josie totah who will be one of the producers as well.

According to various sources, totahs character will not only be a trans girl in the show but she'll be the most popular girl in school who is both admired and feared by her peers.   Ok.  At the risk of sounding like a transphobe, if this is seriously the case then things sure have changed since I was in high school as I know for a fact that wouldn't be the case when I was in high school but eh.  It's been over a few decades since I was in high school so maybe things have changed.   Who knows?   I have nothing personal against the idea.   I just find the idea that a trans girl would be the most popular girl at a high school to be unrealistic but that's just me.   I do apologise if my thoughts sound bigoted as I mean no offense.

What makes this reboot even more interesting is that Mario Lopez is going to have a key role in the show as well as Bayside highs new gym coach.   Many fans of the show may recognize him as his original character from the original series, ac Slater, who used to be something of a rival for Zach in the earlier episodes of the original series but they later became good friends.

Mario is said to be reprising his original iconic role in the series as Slater has become a coach for Bayside while his wife, Jesse (another character from the original series), is setup as the school's guidance counselor.

The reason why this is surprising is because Mario was quoted in an interview recently saying he didn't agree with parents who think it's ok to allow children as early as three years old to choose their gender and go through gender transitioning at that age.  He basically cited concerns saying we still don't know the long term side effects of such a thing and he said it's dangerous for the child.

However when he made those statements, he was attacked by many of Hollywood elitists and the media.   Citing he was a homophobe and a bigot for not agreeing with parents who let their three year old children decide their own genders.    Needless to say, he issued a public apology saying he was wrong and how his words were cruel to the lbgtq community and ignorant on his part.   And now he's going to be a recurring main character in the saved by the Bell reboot featuring a trans character teen in high school?    Anyways here's a link to know more.
