I am so thankful to Marvel Studios for creating Ms. Marvel TV series. Seriously I enjoyed watching it. It is a story of a girl named Kamala Khan, a 16-year-old fan of the Avengers, who struggles to fit in until she gains her own powers.

What I liked best about this series is that Marvel did an excellent job portraying a Pakistani family living in the United States. They illustrated so well how Pakistani kids, particularly Muslims, manage in foreign countries such as the US, Europe, the UK, and many others, especially when their parents are quite strict and strongly rooted in Pakistani culture and beliefs.

Marvel has also cast some Pakistani drama actors in it... They have also added some Bollywood songs. . . all in all a wonderful twist.... If you haven't seen it yet, I strongly recommend you watch it once. (As a Pakistani, I thoroughly enjoyed it.)

I just completed watching two episodes without blinking my eyes. So much fun, truly. The series is available on Disney+, but I'm hoping it will also be available on other online streaming services or maybe Torrents.

Thanks for sharing Misbah!!! Frankly, being on basic cable I only get the hum-drum four major network TV shows like Young Sheldon, which may be my most favorite for some time now. I do get to see reruns on some channels going back as far as the 60's that reinforce my memories while offers a compare/contrast of acting, plot development, and, yes, too social commentary. That is emphasized by you with the main character and family of Ms. Marvel.

I think TV shows as well as movies have moved our society(s) forward almost to the extent of exponentially at times regard diversity. For instance, one repeat I watch is In the Heat of the Night based on the movie with Sidney Poitier both of which challenged the U.S. culture/society on racial lines. I see that is what Ms. Marvel will do too and also why it is so important to you. Hooray!!

To sum it up I hope it gains enough traction with an aim at challenging as well as change attitudes/perspectives of South Asia based culture as well as religious tones. I would watch it if availed one day while I would take notice of what you pointed out in your OP, which has importance.

Thanks for sharing. Write an article on it that will get to Reelrundown I think is the niche site with a theme of how TV shows change society using Ms. Marvel as the example. Just have fun, fun, fun with it!! smile

Yes, Tim, I agree that sometimes cinema and television shows helps us to get closer. It helps people understand and respect one another regardless of cultural, religious, or other differences. I hope you can find it somewhere online. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. It's a fantastic idea to write an article about Ms. Marvel. I've always failed with ReelRunDown, but it's worth a try smile

        Blessings always!!

I watch everything Marvel. I used to read the comics too. I like the show Ms. Marvel, it's a unique take and on-brand with the direction the Marvel Cinematic Universe is going. I was amazed to see a Marvel show explore the India-Pakistani partition. It was a dark chapter in history, and a Marvel show was the last place I was expecting to see that.

Sadly, Kamala Khan's show and story is at risk of being overshadowed by other big Marvel movies and shows. Her connection to other Marvel characters is Shang Chi which came out last year, and her next appearance is expected to be Captain Marvel which is coming out next year. It would have helped the show if it was placed closer to the movies that are connected with the storyline. Ms Marvel was placed after the events of Loki, Dr Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, and Spider-Man No Way Home. To fit the show into the storyline of the MCU, the character's storyline had to be rewritten. Marvel now has two different Ms. Marvels, one for TV and one for the comics.

The shows that are coming after Ms Marvel are Thor- Love and Thunder, She-Hulk, Black Panther- Wakanda Forever, Ant-Man, Secret Invasion, What if?, and Guardians of the Galaxy, before we see her again in Captain Marvel. Those movies and shows are guaranteed to shift the storyline forward and unfortunately, the impact of Kamala Khan's story will be lost.

Wow! Thank you so much for sharing all this information, Al Stine. I really appreciate it. I only hope Ms. Marvel gets the attention and fame it deserves.
        Stay blessed! smile

PS: Yes, they highlighted a dark period of history, the partition of the subcontinent, but I liked how they developed the story. I believe that even though India and Pakistan are geographically separated, their hearts and souls remained connected. The roots are the same, and one should never forget their roots. My grandmother was 7 years old at the time of partition, and I have heard many stories from her about that period. smile

Very true, the writers were given creative liberties to explore topics that are generally not associated with family-friendly Disney+ content. It is good to know you understand your history very well. In the grand scheme of things, certain topics tend to fly under the radar.

The India-Pakistan partition reminds me of one of my favorite Albert Einstein quotes, "The greatest illusion in this world is the illusion of separation..". The things we perceive as separate and different, are actually one and the same thing.

          It's a great show and a great education. ✌️

Thank you so much, Al Stine. I agree with Albert Einstein's quote. It is perfectly true.
I know it's a little self-promotional, but I'd want to share this with you:

Thank you for the poem, Misbah. ✌️

It is definitely on the topic, so I wouldn't call it self-promotional.

"..What appears to look like dividing lines,
              May actually be the connectors..."

Is indeed a very philosophical thought. I now have something to contemplate.

              Thank you. smile

I love Ms Marvel and I have loved watching it. I've learned so much about the culture and I've been able to get a small glimpse into what life is like for young Muslims in America. It's a fantastic series and it's absolutely criminal that it's not getting more praise.

Alec Zander, thank you very much for your nice response. I loved how you said, "It's absolutely criminal that it isn't getting more praise." It most certainly is.... Lol! smile

I am sure it is a wonderful show, Misbah, and no one better to review the representation of a Pakistani family living in another country than yourself.
I don't have Disney and had not heard of the series. Thank you for sharing though.

Thank you so much for your kind response, John. Maybe you can find it on any online streaming site. I signed up for Disney+ especially to watch Ms. Marvel. Disney+ has a lot of old cartoon movies that I remember seeing as a kid, such as Cinderella, Peter Pan, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Sleeping Beauty, and Aladdin. I have planned to re-watch all of them; I want to relive my childhood. It is never too late.... smile

      Blessings to you, dear friend.

I'm a Marvel Comics fan from way back but I don't have Disney+ so I have yet to see this show (or any of the other various Marvel programs). There are so many super hero TV and movie projects out there (with new ones coming all the time) that it became too hard to keep up with them all, so I stopped trying... big_smile

Lol!! Keith, don't give up. Superheroes would die as a result of so much disrespect. big_smile

I'm sure Marvel would hate to lose a loyal fan. Do watch it whenever you can; I am sure you will enjoy it.

      Best wishes! smile
