Just finished listening to a string of Greatful Dead classics with tears in my eyes. I am the Deadesthead. Jerry said once that he hoped to learn to play guitar before he died! He had the temerity to be humble.
Clapton is God yes, but once his temerity showed when he claimed he was the greatest guitarist. He could say it again and we will say yeah yeah
Who really was the greatest?
I say both
What are you confused about?
Jerry Garcia and Eric Clapton are the two greatest guitarists of all time?
They don't rank in the top 5.
You need to broaden your musical scope.
I am more than perplexed
Who are those five. Pl enlighten me before my goes smithereens
My top 5
Not in any order, just better than the choices offered up.
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Eddie Van Halen
I cannot even BELIEVE there is no Jimi or Randy on here.
yeah but yeah
But pioneering counts. That is where Clapton and Hendrix AND Jerry stand out
It's "Grateful Dead." I'm not sure you can be the "Deadesthead" if you don't know that.....
Love love love him I play the guitar so both.... but more on Clapton
If discussing just the two of them and no one else, Eric Clapton by far...
although Jerry Garcia makes better ice cream
I don't know about the same mold unless you mean Blues Guitarists.
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Jimmy Page (although not limited to Blues)
The list is long.
I am surprised there is no Jimi Hendrix in your list
Anyway. the subtext is:
Do tears roll down when you hear Greteful dead.... say, Rripples.. the da da da dada da da da
I actually wrote a hub. It is in consideration of lead guitarists.

It's too subjective. There's also a multitude of criteria to consider. I can pretty much guarantee any pop musicians would not be on my list, however. I have yet to hear a phenomenal musician in either the pop or alt....
