Liz & Dick: Elizabeth Taylor & Richard Burton Movie

Updated on October 15, 2014

The Love Life of Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton

Liz & Dick tells the rocky story of the love between Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. The story was written by Christopher Monger and stars Lindsay Lohan as Elizabeth Taylor and Grant Bowler as Richard Burton and premired as a made-for-television movie on Lifetime on November 25, 2012.

Despite a story that still mesmerises people today, the movie was not so warmly received. I watched it and would have to agree with the majority of comments that it was not a very successful movie. However, if you are a big fan of either Taylor or Burton, you might want to give it a watch anyway...

Rumours about a Martin Scorsese biopic film...

Furious Love: Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton and the Marriage of the Century, the 2010 book by Sam Kashner and Nancy Schoenberger, is about Elizabeth Taylor's scandalous affair and two tumultuous marriages to Richard Burton. Rumours have it that he story has been optioned by Paramount Pictures and movie director Martin Scorcese though those rumours are starting to seem old.

Elizabeth Taylor never authorized or really approved of any of the biographical books that were released about her life and career nor did she write a biography herself. She did, however, allow the authors of the book Furious Love to read the love letters that she exchanged with Richard Burton and Martin Scorsese has received approval from the required parties to do a biopic film about the legendry actors based on the contents of Furious Love.

Elizabeth (she hated "Liz") was a true and elegant classic. This movie should be wonderful.

I have no idea who should play those huge roles, but I do remember the Taylor-Burton marriages and I am anxious to read Furious Love and I look forward to seeing the movie!

I'm glad you defined "biopic" because I never heard that term before. I vote for Catherine Zeta Jones to play Elizabeth Taylor.

I think any of the actors/actresses that you named might be able to do those two roles. They're all so good at their craft. It will be interesting to see how well received a biopic about Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton would be received since (I would think) most of their fan base at this point is over age 60. They are legends, though, and I'm sure I would be interested in seeing the movie. Glad you'll be keeping us informed, Brenda!
