Single Mom On The Road

Updated on August 1, 2009

Traveling Mommy

Dearest Maggie:

I am a single mother. Often I am on the road, which means that sometimes I have to leave my precious little girl at home overnight with my mother. I am blessed in that my job only has me traveling overnight maybe once or twice a week so I am home most of the time. I want my little girl to have good role models other than television stars and the like. What would you suggest that I do with her?

Sincerely,

Traveling Mommie

Dear Traveling Mommie:

I can only imagine how difficult it must be to travel so much and even have to be away overnight from your precious daughter. I pray that God would make a way for you to be home every evening so that you will be there for her as she grows into her teen years. How blessed you are that your mother is such a help to you.

One suggestion that I would make would be to think about the women in your life that you most admire, respect and trust. Women who believe as you believe and hold the same values that you hold, women that you trust with your heart. Make a list of these women and then write a short note asking them to partner with you by mentoring your little girl. Ask them to share with her their hearts, teach her, and encourage her. I do this with my own daughter and it has been fantastic. She has learned how to sew, cook, overcome her fears, chose a gift for others, write thank you notes and most importantly her value in Christ Jesus through the lovely ladies that I chose to mentor her. I encourage you to do this for your daughter as well … it will make a difference in her life and in yours!!

Proverbs 22:6 - Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.

May “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.” [Numbers 6:24-26]

In His Service!

Maggie

Although I am not a single Mom, I would take your advice. I can at least pass it on. Thank you!
