   When is it okay to change your adult children's bedrooms after they move out?
   
   In the past few months, one son has married and the other has leased a house of his own while going to college nearby.  I asked them if it was okay to change the rooms into an office and guest room and both say it is okay.  I seem to have more difficulty with it being changed than they do!!  Are they being nice or do you think that it really is okay?  Gramma says I should wait just in case the college boy needs to move back, but I think he will come back if he wants.  His room is completely empty...he took it all!  So it should be okay to make a guest room...right??

   The moment the door shuts.  Let them know youlove them but you have reclaimed your home. It makes it less inviting to use you as a fall-back plan. Make those rooms yours, you deserve them!

   I think my parents waited a week, but that's mainly because they had a busy work week and helped me load up the U-Haul when I left. My room is a reloading room now, my sister's is an office, one brother's is a guest room, and I think the other brother's ended up being more storage. Mine was the fastest to be switched over, but only because I was the only one of the bunch to actually take all my stuff. My mom is still trying to give me my sister's stuff just to get it out of there -- and it's been eight years.

   My folks made it clear that "my" room was not mine at all.  It was a place I was allowed to live in while under their roof.  When I moved out, I wasn't even allowed to take the furniture; it wasn't mine because I did not buy it.  My room became my dad's office.  My brother's room is a guest room ...
   
   hm ... funny, I just realized I'm doing it the other way now that I'm about to become a mommy.  My guest room is about to become child's bedroom ... LOL
   
   I think having a guest room is essential.  I think if the room holds memories you're cherishing, it may be harder for you to "erase" ... try to have fun making the change and remember that the memories are in your heart and that room will build more good memories in the future.

   why do you have to wait ... it's your house ... and they will remain your kids... if anyone needs to move back for any reason then you can empty the room again ... not a big deal.

   I guess deep down it may just be my empty nest hiccups!  I refuse to let it be a syndrome, but it still hits from time to time...therefore, hiccups!   I have also gone through a job change, have a son overseas (the newlywed), and now this empty nest thing!! 
   
   You are all awesome!  Thank you for your encouragement!  I am officially moving our room into the college kid's room...it's bigger and closer to the bathroom!  Our room will be my new office, near the back door and more convenient for loading and unloading large bags of jeans!  The newly married Marine's room will become our guest room! 
   
   Now....on to decorating!!  Sounds like a hub coming on!!  I'm thinking zebra and hot pink for the office and leopard and red for the guest room!!!  Time to go wild!!

   Ofcourse you can. Whenever you kid come back , He can also use his bedroom as guest room. There is nothing to be worry.
