I may be wrong but is it not when you have someone (a lady perhaps) who overlooks and helps in the deliverance of a baby at birth? I think this was the custom before "hospitals" and "911" were available. "Midwives" are still around and some people prefer having one come to the house as suppose to going to the hospital and seeing a doctor. I will feel like a donkey if I got this wrong lol
