Astonishing and admirable. How does a family survive on one income?
    Stay at home mom?

You might not see it as much but I've been told many times over that it takes a two parent income these days. I'm encouraged to hear that parents care enough to raise their own kids instead of working full time just to afford full time day care. Spot on. Is "Stay at home mome" the same as "house wife"? I grew up between these two generations. Where would the term "home maker" fall in between these two? You and hubby get 2 thumbs up!!!!

Well, the money question is a exactly that, about money.  It depends on what your expenses are as to what income you have coming in.  I am fortunate that my husband earns enough that we can live off his income alone.  That being said, we live in a small house, drive an old car and live a well budgeted life!
We have made a choice to sacrifice some material things in order to have me be at home with the kids, because that is what we feel is right for our family.  Many families don't have the luxury of that choice though and both parents have to work to make ends meet.
I call myself a stay at home mum.  That is because I am home to take care of the kids, not to be a wife!

We chose it very deliberately to raise our kids on one income. That meant we were not going on expensive vacation, buying just because we could. Our kids wear hand-me-downs, we ride an old car and I don't buy a shirt for myself if it costs more than a few dollars. We live frugal life but we are not cheap. We cook healthy meals at home and don't eat out, we reuse, We carefully decide whether we want something vs need it. Our kids still go to extracurricular classes but not to all that are available. We try to live simple life and make our ends meet.

You also need to take into consideration that if mom works, she has to incur certain expenses that we don't have. For example, she needs to have a better selection of quality clothes, she needs more gas to drive to and from work, she has to pay the childcare expenses. Working mom has less time to cook so she pays higher price for take out foods, uses on average more professional services than a SAHM because her time is limited.
