Do you think preschools should implement teeth brushing to the kids' daily schedule?
No, I don't. I worked in Head Start classrooms during a period when they did brush their teeth and did a flouride rinse, which now we have found out isn't that safe. The amount of germs and exposure to them in the sinks, and storing the brushes safely are not worth the benefits, in my opinion. Brushes have to be covered and stored. Children should brush their teeth before they come to school and before they go to bed. Teachers should not be responsible for preschoolers dental hygiene other than educating about dental hygiene and healthy eating habits.
no i don't. it's not their business when or how often the child brushes their teeth. also over brushing isn't any better then not brushing at all. their not the schools kids so they have no right implementing such a program.
Thank you for your answers, I agree, its not a bad idea to have a session about good hygiene but I do worry about the germs, you're right i can only imagine what happens to those tooth brushes, my friend is a preschool teacher and she said the're thinking about it, scary!
teeth brushing and other activities of daily living should be addressed in preschool. it is an ideal age to assure that children have these skills. beginning with a good evaluation checklist, teaching programs should be initiated based on need. parents should be involved, at a minimum, by informing them which skills are being taught and the methods being used. ideally, some parents might be involved in the preschool setting, although this might be difficult for most.
