Are children's parents clueless to pedophiles on the internet?

I remember when I was young I always had to have a parent in the room when I used the Internet. It seems like parents don't worry about these kinds of things anymore. Thoughts?

It sure seems like parents have become a lot more lenient towards the internet. But that may not always be the case. Parental controls have come a really long way from when we were kids.

Forget about the internet, at least there is distance.  How about the school they are enrolled in. smh

Parents are too enabling to allow the freedoms of youth ! Without oversight , without  common sense and supervision. What kid doesn't have phones , free computer time , and anything else thier little spoiled hearts desire.

I think they still do, but they just learn to trust their children not to make stupid decisions or give out their personal info.

I don't think they are clueless. I think that they trust their children to do the right thing under parental control options of certain sites. They may trust the internet and their firewall from bringing in any predators. But it does not matter what you do, the pedophiles are there. A friend of mine done everything possible as a good parent for her child on the internet. She would sneak  around to chat-rooms and forums and did eventually leave her home after school with a pedophile from California. She was returned safely thanks to the quick actions and keeping a sharp eye on the history of her actions.
