I think the term "friends" is a serious grey line. Personally, I think all mothers should be their daughter's Best Friends. They should be able to talk to them about anything; confide in them with secrets, cry on their shoulders, tell funny stories, and even share hopes and dreams. However, there has to be somewhere where the friendship is simply a love and respect for a good mother, and they can also respect their mother as an authority figure and disciplinarian. When a mother is JUST a friend, the relationship no longer works.
