What happened to Alabama birth records from 1950's?
I'm doing my family tree on Ancestry and I noticed that birth records from 1950's Alabama are not available. I know it's not because the date is too recent because my own California birth record showed up from the 70's. I'm at a dead end. Were Alabama records destroyed at some point?
I'm originally from AL, but haven't heard anything about this. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean much. I have a friend who has done extensive genealogical research on Jefferson and Blount Counties, & possibly others that I don't know about. Her husband died recently, so I don't want to bother her with this right now, but will ask her about it soon. If it's true, she will know.
