Not unless it has been a while since I have seen a growth spurt. Thankfully some companies make sizes that fit both possible sizes for my boys, like 10/12 or 8/10. If I can find those I buy them. They seem to fit better for longer.
I guess it really just depends on the kids. My 3 have pretty predictable growth spurts so far, but now that my boys are getting closer to teen years I am sure they will become less predictable.
