Alcoholic Wassail Christmas Punch

Updated on January 18, 2011

This is a recipe for Wassail, a traditional Christmas punch. This is a recipe that includes alcohol, which is a classic ingredient.

If you want a non-alcoholic recipe, just go to the site listed below.

Since this punch is hot, you should use a metal punch bowl if you have one.

1 gallon apple cider
6 whole allspice
1 cup light brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 6 ounce can frozen lemonade
1 4 inch cinnamon stick
1 6 ounce can frozen orange juice
2 bottles port wine
12 whole cloves
oranges and lemons (optional)

In large kettle, mix together cider, sugar and frozen juices. Tie cloves and allspice in small piece of cheese cloth and add to cider mix. Add nutmeg and cinnamon stick.

Simmer mix gently for 20 minutes.

Add wine, heat to steaming, but not boiling.

Remove spice cheese cloth. Serve the punch hot.

If you put the punch on the buffet , use metal punch bowl and float thin orange and lemon slices on top.
