What is an appetizer?

The word appetizer means a food or drink the stimulates the appetite. It usually comes before the meal in a small portion size. It leaves you wanting more and desiring for additional nourishment.

Let's Make Appetizers

Appetizer make a great start to any meal, party, or get together. I love appetizers. I frequently drool over the appetizers offered at restaurants knowing that I can't order all of them even though i really want to. There are so many good idea for appetizers that sometime it is overwhelming to just pick one. These are a few of my go to ideas for parties and events.

Some are easy, some require a little more prep work, and some are buy and pop in the oven. It is all about making a warm welcoming event. My mom's love language is food, she is never happy unless she is feeding someone. She even tries extremely hard to meet the needs of the dietary needs and wants of people that visit her home.

We are an eating family, we make good food and lots of it. It also forces me to spend a lot of time at the gym.

Easy Meatballs

Meatballs

The is on of the simplest recipes I make and are always a hit. I buy pre-made meatballs from the frozen food section. You can find the chili sauce near the cocktail sauce in the grocery store.

You can also cook them on high but keep an eye on them so they don't get overcooked. I have over cooked them before, this is not one you can leave in the morning on low and serve around dinner. I usually cook them for about 2 hours and then they can be turned down to warm.

Hot Wings

I love making hot wing. These are a baked hot wing because I don't own a deep fryer and I don't think most people do. so even though this recipe calls for 3 sticks of butter it is a little bit more healthy than deep friend wings.

Click the link below to find both the recipe for the sauce and the instruction for grilling.

I also make these in my over during the winter months. Bake at 450 for about 1 hr 30 min, turning half way through. Broil for the last 10 minutes. This also depends on the size of your wings so keep an eye on them and use your judgement on the time needed.

Bacon Wrapped Water Chesnuts - Ramaki

Yum! This are one of my favorites.

  • 2 pounds sliced bacon
  • 2 cans whole water chestnuts
  • Soy sauce
  • Brown Sugar

I like to soak the water chestnuts in soy and brown sugar before hand. Then wrap them in bacon.

See the awesome video below on how to make them.

Mini Egg Rolls

This may be a cheater appetizer, because it is. I buy the mini egg rolls found at many of the large warehouse membership type stores. Pop them in the over and place them on a pretty platter with a several beautiful bowls of dipping sauces. It is an easy, filling appetizer that requires very little prep work.

This is an easy make - ahead recipe that I assure you will get devoured. I also really like this as a hostess gift, bring with you somewhere gift. You put it in a pretty vase or bowl and allow the hostess to keep the glassware. I always find great inexpensive bowls that are interesting looking at IKEA.

Start any meal with an appetizer. Break bread with friends and enjoy a meal together. There is no better way to make new friends and forge new relationships than over food. Look for new ideas and try out some old ones, share recipes and create new ones.
