6 Must Have Spice Mixes

There is no need to buy those spice blends you see for sale everywhere, when you can make them yourself easily. They also make great gifts if you fix them up in little jars. Store mixtures in airtight containers in a cool dry place. Use within 6 months.

Chinese Five-Spice Powder

1 tsp. black pepper

2 tsp. ground star anise

2 tsp. ground fennel seeds

1 tsp. ground cloves

2 tsp. ground cinnamon

1 tsp. salt

Mix all ingredients in small airtight container. Store in a cool, dry place.

Pumpkin Pie Spice

2 Tbsp. ground cinnamon

3 tsp. ground nutmeg

2 tsp. ground ginger

1 tsp. ground cloves

1 tsp. ground allspice

½ tsp. salt

Mix all together and store in airtight container.

Taco Seasoning

2 Tbsp. chili powder

2 tsp. garlic powder

2 tsp. onion powder

½ tsp. crushed red pepper flakes

1 tsp. dried oregano

1 tsp. paprika

3 tsp. ground cumin

2 tsp. salt

1 tsp. black pepper

1/2 tsp. sugar

Mix all together. Store in an airtight container. Use as little or as much as you want for your family taste, and what you are making.

Italian Seasoning

3 Tbsp. dried basil

3 Tbsp. dried oregano

3 Tbsp. dried thyme

3 Tbsp. dried marjoram

2 Tbsp. dried rosemary

1 Tbsp. dried sage

2 Tbsp. Garlic Powder

2 Tbsp. Onion Powder

1 Tbsp. dried parsley

1 Tbsp. Salt

Mix all ingredients in airtight container.

Chili Seasoning

2 Tbsp. flour

2 tsp. powder onion

2 tsp. chili powder

2 tsp. salt

1 tsp. crushed red pepper

3 tsp. garlic powder

1 tsp. ground cumin

1 tsp. dried parsley

½ tsp. dried basil

¼ tsp. ground black pepper

Mix all ingredients in airtight container.

Cajun Spice Mix

2 Tbsp. paprika

2 Tbsp. salt

3 Tbsp. garlic powder

1 Tbsp. black pepper

2 Tbsp. onion powder

1-2 Tbsp. cayenne powder

2 Tbsp. dried oregano

1 Tbsp. dried thyme

1 Tbsp. dried basil

1 tsp. sugar

1 Tbsp. chili powder

Mix all ingredients in airtight container

Curry Powder Mix

2 Tbsp. paprika

4 Tbsp. Cumin Powder

3 tsp. ground fennel seed

1 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes

3 Tbsp. ground coriander

2 Tbsp. Turmeric Powder

2 tsp. ground cardamom

1 tsp. ground cinnamon

1 tsp. ground cloves

3 tsp. Chili Powder

For a hotter curry add more chili powder and red pepper flakes

Mix all in airtight container

You can adjust spice mix of any of these to fit you family needs and taste.
