Deluxe Biscuits with Sausage Gravy
This is a Mom Kat special! I created this recipe when I was pregnant with my first child and is still one of my favorite meals to make and eat.
If you like Biscuits with Sausage Gravy, you're sure to love Deluxe style! So lets get cooking:
Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter (or margarine)
1/4 cup flour
4 cups milk
1 lb. ground sausage
1 can sliced mushroom (or chop your own fresh)
1 medium tomato (diced)
1 medium green pepper (chopped)
1 medium onion (diced) -optional
salt & pepper (to taste)
8 biscuits - (your choice of type)
Let's get cooking:
- Brown and drain your ground sausage. set aside
- Melt the butter in a deep skillet or pot.
- Stir in the flour
- Pour in milk, whisk until smooth. Continue cooking until thickening occurs.
- In a separate skillet - saute onion, green pepper, and mushrooms.
- Add the saute mix of onion, green pepper, and mushrooms to the white gravy.
- Add the ground sausage and diced tomatoes to the white gravy.
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Split biscuit in two, place on plate
- Ladle Deluxe Sausage gravy over biscuit & serve hot
Tips:
- Try using powdered milk. It saves money & makes an excellent white gravy.
- Substitute sausage drippings for the butter for added flavor.
- Tomatoes can be substituted with pimentos
- Double the batch, freeze the extras for fast easy breakfasts to come!
