A Cup of Hot Chocolate With Marshmallows And Chocolate Shavings

Bulk Hot Chocolate Mix

Save your hard earned dollars this winter by making your own instant hot chocolate.

I make a batch of this instant hot chocolate mix, every winter. By doing so I save quite a bit of money, and am sure to always have some handy when the grand kids come over. A real treat for the kids, myself and anyone needing a nice steaming cup of hot chocolate when coming in out of the cold.

I love sitting in front of the cozy fireplace with a toasty fire going and a delicious cup of hot chocolate in my favorite mug. The grand kids huddled around sipping on theirs as we read from a favorite story book or watch a favorite movie..The grand kids usually like to watch Frozen or the Polar Express. I happy watching any children's movie or a classic Christmas story.

Its easy to make and the ingredients are readily available at any grocery store or market.

I keep the biggest part of the hot chocolate mix in a large container in the pantry, but I also keep a jar of it handy, on the kitchen counter for easy access. A teapot simmering on the stove ready to pour in to our favorite mugs.

Gift Giving Idea
This can also be made up into smaller packages for gift giving...Place in a Mason jar, tie it up with a beautiful bow ..twine or raffia, tuck in a candy cane...and a cute little tag with instructions to make individual servings.

Ingredients For Hot Chocolate Mix

  • 2 cups non fat dry milk powder
  • 1/2 cup powdered non dairy creamer
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 dash salt

Instructions

  1. Combine all of the ingredients in a large bowl.
  2. Mix well.
  3. Store in a tightly covered container.
  4. For a single serving :
  5. 1/4 cup mix, 3/4 cup boiling water. Stir to blend. Top off with a dollop of whip cream or fluffy marshmellows.
  6. A favorite of children and adults as well, is to sprinkle on some chocolate or rainbow shots . Add a candy peppermint stick or cinnamon bark. Or colored sugar on the whip cream.

Hot Chocolate Toppers

I can only speak for myself of course, but for me topping off hot chocolate with a huge dollop of whip cream, a few mini marshmallows or a couple of big marshmallows is necessary, a sprinkle of cinnamon a dash of chocolate or rainbow shots, chocolate shavings or maybe a peppermint stick or candy cane.

The video provided will show you how to make your own home made Marshmallows.

A jar of home made hot chocolate mix a package of home made Marshmallows, a mug or two and a really good video would surely make a wonderful gift basket and put a smile on the face of the receiver.

Thank you for sharing this... this will come in useful for sure. I got a lovely jar of cocoa mix sitting in the kitchen that I got for Christmas. I haven't tried it yet but was told it has a little bit of a kick to it via cayenne pepper. Should be interesting! Great hub here.. voted up :)

I love hot chocolate during the winter, but I hate to pay for the name brand pre-made pouches. This is a great little recipe. Easy to do and you can make enough of the mix in advance to last quite a while! Thanks for sharing this. Yummy!

I get migraines from some types of chocolate, but this one looks very doable. I'm gonna try it and hope it will work for me. At the very most, I expect it to be worth the migraine:). Thank you for this.
