Sesame chicken

Updated on July 1, 2015

I was searching for the recipes of some new dishes ( new for me) and while searching the net I came up with sesame chicken. Its pictures were mouth watering so it got me interested and looked for its recipe. To my utter surprise the ingredients were very simple and it was very easy to make. The dish looked, felt and tasted yummy. It goes well with the steamed rice. One distant thing about the chicken is its aromas. If you like ginger and its aroma then this chicken is for you as while cooking the aroma of ginger and sesame oil is going to fill up your whole house ( well I live in small apartment so it was easily filled by aroma). Also it doesn’t take much time to cook and can be cooked in less than half hour so if unexpected guests show up, you know what to cook.

Cook Time

Cook time: 30 min
Ready in: 30 min
Yields: Serves: 2

Ingredients:

  1. Chicken Drumsticks: 3
  2. Ginger: 3 inch piece.
  3. Sesame oil: 2 Tbsp.
  4. Soy Sauce: 1 ½ Tsp.
  5. Oyster Sauce: ½ Tsp.
  6. Chinese Rice wine: 1 Tsp.
  7. White pepper powder: 3 pinch.
  8. Water: ½ cup.

Method:

  1. Chop each drumstick in to four pieces.
  2. Peel the ginger and cut in to thin strips.
  3. Take a wok and heat on high.
  4. Add sesame oil and heat.
  5. In the hot oil add ginger strips.
  6. Fry till the aroma of ginger starts coming.
  7. Now add chicken pieces.
  8. Stir fry for 20 seconds and then add soy sauce.
  9. Cook for another 15 seconds and then add oyster sauce.
  10. After few seconds add wine and white pepper powder.
  11. Stir fry till chicken is ¾ th cooked.
  12. Add ½ cup of water and stir it quickly.
  13. Turn heat to medium and cover the wok with its lid.
  14. Cook till chicken in tender and sauce is thick.
  15. Once chicken is cooked, transfer to serving bowl.
  16. Serve hot.

Tip:

If the sauce dries up, add more water and cook until the chicken reach your desired doneness.

You have a great series going here with all of the various ways to cook chicken. I like your series and I particularly like this recipe for sesame chicken. I have enjoyed eating it in restaurants and will now be tempted to try this at home. Sesame oil is very concentrated in flavor and aroma. No wonder your apartment had that wonderful scent after cooking this. Up, useful and interesting votes. Thanks!
