Use regular file folder labels or masking tape to write food labels. Cut down to size if necessary. Stick onto containers. Place clear packaging tape on top of the label. This should hold for a while.
Use masking tape and permanent marker on reusable containers or permanent marker on disposable container / freezer bag and allow to dry for a minute before putting item into fridge or freezer.

I do this too ~ use masking tape and a sharpie. When the food in the container is done, the tape can easily be peeled off.
A sharpie permanent marker should work just fine if you allow it to dry.

Yes, but you don't want to permanently mark the plastic container you are using. Scotch tape is cheap, easy, clear, and allows you to write with permanent marker and then remove when you no longer need it. :)
