Does anyone have a good english dumpling recipe? Need it for my Stew!
Dumplings are a delicious addition to a stew or casserole to increase the carbohydrate count of the meal. They need to be added about 15 minutes before serving. I am sure that this recipe will come too late for your stew but here goes...
2 cups of plain flour
2 teaspoons of baking soda
2 table spoons of butter
125 mls of milk
Mix the dry ingredients and then rub in the butter. Slowly add the milk whilst stirring with a knife until a wet dough is created. You may need more milk if it is too dry... think wet scone dough.
then place tablespoons of the dough into the stew/casserole. place lid on the dish and serve after 15-20 mins
Hi, i don't know if your still wanting an English Dumpling Recipe here's the one I use that make lovely big light Dumplings.....
3oz of SUET
6OZ SELF RAISING FLOUR
About 20 minutes before the Stew/Casserole is due to be taken out of the oven mix all the ingredients for the Dumpling mix together.
With WET HANDS form the sticky dough into Dumpling shapes, then place on top of your Stew/Casserole.
Leave uncovered and place back into the oven,turning the heat up slightly to Gas 6/450 f/220 C, the Stew will thicken and the Dumplings will plump up and crisp on top
