What can I use to substitute rice wine in a recipe?
I love the favor rice wine gives to food but it is very expensive where I live. I once heard a Japanese chef say that it can be substitute with tequila, giving a very similar flavor, but I am not sure of the right conversion between them. Any other suggestion is also welcomed.

No, we do not have the 99cent store where I live. Rice wine is distributed only through gourmet style shops and has always import prices, which are always high for products that do not have a high demand on the market.
