What effects do different oils have on popping corn stovetop?
I prefer the taste of popcorn popped with coconut oil over that popped with regular vegetable oil. The texture seemed lighter in coconut oil, and crisper. What other effects do different oils have on popping corn stovetop?
I think it has a lot to do with flavor. I usually use a flavorless oil, like canola. Oils that have stronger flavors can impart their flavors into the popcorn. So, I think it's just a matter of personal preference. I've heard that palm oil and coconut oil make it taste more like movie popcorn.
