What to do with large amounts of watermelon and cantaloupe?
We grew a lot this year and are trying to figure out what to do with them other than eat them plain. Can we freeze them for winter? Are there any other ways of using them?
I don't really know of a way to preserve them. But, The Salvation army and local food banks I'm sure would love to have them.
Watermelon sorbe is really tasty (though one batch doesn't use more than 4 cups or so of watermelon).
Other thoughts: watermelon-lemonade, grilled watermelon and tomato salad, or a watermelon "mojito
In Peru, we blend watermelon in the blender and drink a pure, sweet watermelon smoothie. You can do the same with canteloupe. The juice will begin to separate quickly, so drink right away or stir before drinking.
