I have celiac disease..an autoimmune disease in which gluten causes damage to my intestine.  Others have a gluten sensitivity which may cause excess gas and discomfort but not damage.  Then there is the new gluten free diet which is based on elimating gluten to lose weight...that is a no brainier since gluten is found in all breads, dough, and pasta just to name a very few.  A very controversial protein to say the least. I don't know if more gluten is being used or intolerance is growing but once ther was 1 perso with celiac in 10,000...now that figure has changed to 1 in 133!!   Conclusion, to the average person gluten is not generally unhealthy

You have said it all - I am one of the gluten sensitive people and from what I understand this may have come about because of the modifications in the production of wheat.
