Is it possible for someone to have an extraordinary amount of taste buds?

One of my friends is very picky in the foods she eats, and she tells me that in food items that have many ingredients blended together, she can taste each one individually. Does this mean that she might have more taste buds than the average human?

There is a rare condition where people do have exactly that - extremely sensitive and numerous taste buds.  They are called "super tasters" and they are prone to strange eating habits and even eating disorders because they struggle so much.  I've heard of this phenomenon before and read about it - I wish I knew more off the top of my head it's been awhile, but if you google "super tasters" something should pop up.

yes, she has a "sixth sense" taste bud. Rare but a talent that should be put into good use in food related job.

Actually, she told me that it would be very interesting if she became a food critic. Thanks!
