Rising food prices

    Prices on food have risen a lot lately. It bothers me. Will it get worse? I am a good shopper, but it is becoming more difficult to buy food cheaply. Meat prices are especially bad.

    Is anyone concerned about this? what are your thoughts?

      I also consider myself a good shopper. It was bread, the most basic of basics that puts this issue upfront for me. A loaf of bread that was $3.69 is now $4.49.  Even the $2 store brand loaves are $3 now.

      Yes, it is a concern for me.

      Food is going to become increasingly expensive for a few reasons:

      The declining value of the dollar, which should be expected after increasing by over 30% the amount of "dollars" in circulation between 2020 and 2021.

      The increasing strength of foreign economies and their demand for food, this is simply competition for limited resources.  The downside of bringing 800 million Chinese out of poverty (and out of the rice fields) and into economic prosperity is that there are 800 million more mouths in competition for whatever food is available worldwide.

      The disruption of supply lines and the damage done to farms and livestock during the Covid lockdowns, while this may have lasted only a year, it will have ripple effects for many more to come.

      A new car or a new computer is a luxury not a necessity, so while the prices of many items may not seem to be drastically effected, you will see continued cost escalation in food, which is most definitely a necessity.

          Much thanks, there is one other component I forgot to mention.

          The increased stress humanity is putting on the world and its food sources.
