Where to start when looking to increase traffic?

   I'm still trying to learn some of the technical aspects of hubpages ie; backlinks, keywords etc. But where do you start when you want to increase traffic/receive feedback? Any comments or some insight into how you handle this situation would be much appreciated. thanks

      I use bookmarking sites for getting traffic..stumple and other such sites do bring me good traffic..but my focus is more on getting organic traffic through search engines specially google..there is where keywords , title becomes important..

   Any advice on keywords or choosing a title like you mentioned?
       I know about the adsense keyword calculator, and adwords: traffic estimator to help out but...
   are 'tags' the same as keywords? and is it bad to have too many tags?
   
   I apologize for all the questions, but I know there are many knowledgeable hubbers out there that can help me out with ease. Thanks for your help in advance.

      Well I can offer some opinions as answers.
      
      I'm not the guru that some other experienced hubbers are, but not a newbie either.
      
      Tags
      - are they the same as keywords? yes, no, maybe. Tags are primarily used to group or associate similar hubs within the site, that is their primary function, and they are not officially the same as keywords.  But.. search engines, (and many bookmark sites) sometimes sees tags as a reflection of content, (like keywords), and use them in serp results. So I say think of them like keywords and you cover both possibilities.
      
      can you have too many? - I've read authoritative opinions both ways, most say the more the merrier, up to say 20-40 tags, but the one constant is that "orphan" tags are bad. (tags that no on else ever uses - so an orphan tag group would be a group of 1 - get rid of them.
      
      Boomark site backlinks
      - hot topic here - general consensus is they are necessary and helpful - should have all you can get. But on the flip-side - some knowledgeable marketers are saying Google has discounted their value, (just as it did link-farms a while back)
      
      My experience
      - bookmarked the hell out of my hubs - hours and hours of work - result: very very few direct traffic hits from them, but have no definitive idea how to determine their value for serp, and bookmark sites do have other values to you.
      
      best advice do a hub search for keywords, hub tags, and backlinks - tons of knowledgeable hubbers with good advice backed by more experience than I have..

         An interesting note on bookmarking. Social bookmarking has never obviously helped me, except in an occasional google search where I have seen my hub listed several times through the various social bookmarking sites.
         
         Can't say traffic has changed much, and get very few hits directly from the sites in question. Everybodys experence is different however. Some hubbers report getting great traffic.
         
         Recently I followed Misha's advice on backlinking, and the hub I chose to promote suddenly gained 4 backlinks (as shown in hub metrics)but no traffic until the past day or two when suddenly yes it is getting hit. Not fantastically, but way up on before (I did the backlinking 2 weeks ago).
         
         I would love to post that it is a waste of time backlinking, because I am basically lazy I guess, but it's looking as if it might be the right thing to do.

   The single most important things are your titles and URLs, perfect those by learning about keywords and search engine and you can get away with doing nothing else whatsoever.... get those wrong and anything else that you do becomes irrelevant.

   Start? With keyword research. This is the only start that leads to traffic - unless of course your approach is hope and pray.
