Using the "Table" capsule

Just wondering there are any in-depth guides to using the "table" capsule out there. I couldn't find one on the search.

In particular - there's a box to check that says "Allow sorting" or something like that. How does it work? I'm assuming it means numerical or alphabetical sorting but couldn't figure out how...

    Thanks for any advice!

Sorting will help you decide which column should be given prominence; so you sort one column and the others will follow.

You will find some general information near the bottom of this page:

Thanks for the link but in those pictures the "sort" button isn't even there... I think it must have been added later?

I click the sort button but it doesn't actually do anything... I'm confused!

Indeed, they were announcing that feature to be added soon - so the information is pretty outdated.

I will soon be making a new hub with tables. Once I get so far, I'll see if I can get it to work, and I'll let you know. I hope you can wait that long...

      Ok thank you.

Yes, I can wait. If all else fails I'll make it elsewhere and import it. I just thought it would be good to know how to use the table capsule properly since  I have never really made use of it.

I've emailed the team as well, since if I find out I might do a hub on it for other hapless hubbers, methinks.

      Thanks!

    WryLilt, I got it now.

While editing the table, you make it sortable. When you are done, you save the changes then click preview. Then you can sort the results by clicking on the column you want the table sorted by.

In preview, it says: "(click column header to sort results)"

Ok thank you very much. In my opinion that's really silly. It doesn't help me at all - it just helps the reader!

Sorting it only applies per view, I cannot permanently sort the table. sad

Thanks anyways, guess I'm going to do it in Excel!

Are you sure that is correct? After you sort it to your liking in preview, then uncheck "make table sortable," and the order you have created should stay in place. No? Would that not accomplish what you wanted?

I tried but it only applies to sorting for THAT view. If you can find another way, please do, but from what I can see it is for viewer use only. sad

Seems you are correct. I agree, the feature seems to be useless then. At least now you know...

    Hey WryLilt,

I'm not sure if this is what you're making reference to, but I know Darkside wrote a hub on "Table of Contents".

If not, then I apologize about posting.

Thanks, but no. I've used table of contents before.

No I'm referring to the fact that there's an actual "Table" capsule. Seems very few people use it though! For an example check out my hub "What is a backlink?"

I'm trying to use them more because they are a good tool.
