I've been meaning to turn my tourist blog into a full site. By that I simply mean using a normal page for the home page.
I will then have a blog link, pages of related tourist articles, items and so on. I already have pages in it, but the home page is still in blog format.
However I'm afraid that once I do my adsense clicks will go down. I assume people who come to my site now browse the blog post, click on one they like, read it and then maybe click an ad.
If it's a normal page however they may just glance at it, get confused with all the links and hit the back button. What do you think?
No one will go there. This will be a new page, so - it will have no oncoming links, no ranking etc etc. So - no worries.
I assume you know what terms are driving your traffic and which pages they arrive at - and if it is anything like most of my blogs - they tend to attract traffic directly to an inside page, so I doubt it will make much difference.
Actually with wordpress you can set a page as homepage, which will be the same URL as the blog format it is now. The sidebars, which have most of the links, will be the same.
In blog format, your home page changes each time you make a blog post.
So the traffic coming to the home page would not change. However your right about most traffic coming in from each blog post. In fact if I'm doing it right that is how it should be.
Thanks, need to think on this more,,,,,
Either way - you are going to have a new page with no ranking. In this case - the /blog page - or whatever you name it.
Your just changing from a dynamic to a static frontpage?
Im with MK - your search traffic tends to end up at internal blog posts and pages anyway, a little tweak shouldnt have much effect either way.
Thanks all. I've always been confused about the home page ranking with a blog. Each day, if you post a new post every day, your home page changes.
However the sidebars remain the same. If you make the home page a regular "page" inside wordpress, the URL is still the same. The sidebars are still the same with the same links.
Only the middle content changes. But since it does anyways with new blog post, the ranking should stay the same and it is in fact not a new page at all.
It would be like having a static page to begin with, then changing the text and links in the page. It's the same URL with the same links pointing to it. Your only changing the content of the page, not making a new page.
Anyway I guess I can try it and see what happens, can always change it back. It's just that my sales are getting good, so why fix it, right?
It's just that I always wanted to make it a "real" full site. Maybe I'll leave it alone for now.
Hi Bill, there you go, you have decided about it! Good luck and tell us what happened (well it happened because you said you have sales from it, why changed it)!
Hi there prettydarkhorse, how are you these days? I might make a front page just to see what it looks like, but only as a draft and unpublished.
I have this same problem with all my blogs. They are starting to do well, so I want to expand them into full sites. But,,,, don't fix what is not broke, right?
Still I can't help but wonder if they would do lots better with a real site look to them. I know many people hate blogs and don't understand the format.

This is long, so here's the bottom line: Basically, my problem is I want to build a site around the same topics and keywords I've done well with here on HP, but I don't want to do anything that would damage the work I've already posted here.I have a couple of niche HubPages accounts that do okay....

I have one site where I sell leather apparel on. It started as an adsense type of site, so I still have adsense on it.Now, it seems a bit stupid to have adsense ads for other leather sites over my own products. But I do make good money with adsense on the site.I figure they will look at my stuff...

Sorry if this has been discussed already ad nauseam (I was out of town a bit), but I was experiencing an uptick on several sites following the rollout of Panda 4.2, that seems to have been eradicated on August 14, 2015. In fact my website went almost to 10% of normal pageviews since August...

Today I am changing my wordpress tourist site, which is in a blog format, to a magazine style theme using a Genesis framework theme.I think even today many people don't like a blog layout and get confused about how to find what they are looking for in a blog layout.A magazine layout gives the home...

Hello,I just started here at HP recently, and so far I'm less than impressed with it overall. I have two other blogs, (one url I own, the other is a wordpress blog) and I wanted to use HP for content that doesn't really fit in at my other blogs. I'm about to delete my HP account and just start...
