I do not understand why, when I try very hard with my keyword research to find keyword phrases that will generate ads with a reasonable cpc and to only use keyword tags on those phrases or related phrases, that my hubs are covered with giant flashing ads with pictures of beefburgers and others selling loans - they are not relevant at all to what I have written.
How does this improve the experience of a visitor to Hubpages? If I clicked on a page where the most prominent thing was a giant flashing beefburger, my first thought would be that the article would not be worth reading and I would click off again pdq!
Maybe this is why I am often earning as much from adsense on one little (targeted) website every day as I am earning from all my hubs put together?
Adsense targets ads contextually, but also does targeting based on behaviors - so it's possible to see ads that aren't actually based on the content of the page. Also, AdSense does a better job of targeting ads about a day or two after a hub is initially published. Hope this helps.
Paul, I realised afterward that my post sounded really grumpy! For which, I apologise, the longer I am on HubPages, the more passionate I am about the site! But, I did want to make the point that adverts on some hubs are definitiely NOT improving the visitor's experience by providing targetted content that is of interest to the viewer of the hub. I was also trying to make the point that it is frustrating when as the writer of the hub, one has tried hard to add tags with good keyword phrases that are likely to generate a reasonable cpc and to see ads that have nothing to do with the keyword phrases chosen, quite a while after the hub has been published, is a little disheartening.
Targets based on behaviors? Is that why every (or at least it seems that way) hub that I visit has an ad for making tiny bellies?

Is it just me, or do the adsense adds that pop up often have nothing to do with the topic of your hub? Is there anything that can be done to have some control over the ads that come up (and to make them more relevant)?

I recently posted an article about tips for quitting smoking. The whole focus of the hub, for anyone with a pair of eyes, is about quitting smoking. I've tried to optimize my hub so it would display the appropriate Adsense ads; instead I'm getting ads for video games, credit scores, la-z-boy...

There are many adult products being sold through Amazon. Are such Adult ads like Vibrators, sex toys allowed to be selected and used in Hubs by Authors. I have seen many hubs using Amazon ads like that. (Many hubbers display such amazon ads in hubs that have no relation to that Topic) I just want...

Is anyone else bothered by those oscillating Maven ads? I’m talking about those ads that vibrate continuously. I know they’ve done this to attract attention. But it’s annoying while trying to read an article and in my opinion it might even cause readers to leave the page.I reported this to HubPages...

This probably isn't a bug, but it's annoying and I wish Hubpages wouldn't do it. There is an ad which plays sound appearing on some of my hubs. I think it's a cricket ad with the sound of a bat hitting a ball, and a crowd cheering. The ad is also one which appears right at the bottom of the page,...

Whenever I visit a site and am bombarded with pop-unders and the ever annoying "you have a message" ads, I usually retreat and never go back. I always though these sites were spammy. Now HP has become one of them. Jeez, where will it end?
