Current world population? About 6.3 billion. It should reach about 9 1/2 billion within a generation and a half, say 50 yrs.
Considering the problems we are experiencing today, is there any hope that our "lot" can be improved and can "problems" which will jeopardize our existence, be solved in that short length of time?
Or will our problems increase, geometrically, and the possibility of a great reduction in our numbers become a reality?
Qwark
Arh well, change might help with this population issue. Things can drastically change over 50 years - just look 50 years ago! There was no Internet, for example.
All history goes around in circles - it just might be that the economy that we know today, will not be what we will know in the future. Life, for sure, will change unrecognisably - just as it has for our forefathers and our forefathers before.
shaz:
Man now has the absolute ability to end life as it exists.
Never before in time has all life been jeopardized by we humans.
Give me a reason why you think there will not be a drastic reduction in the human population and, possibly, all other forms of life on earth.
Qwark
Short answer, not if everyone wants to live like we do in the west today. There are going to be billions of people who will only know sustenance living for their lives and no work or purpose. Idle hands create more problems and more people too.
Five people can seldom live peacefully for an extended length of time, and the studies done with caged rats is societally revealing. I don't think that the rat cage is where we want to end up, so we better start thinking outside of it. Now think!
"Can Ten Billion People Live Peacefully?"
They can, but they won't!
As for the population, it might not reach that mark this early. I am afraid we are going to have quite a few wars(mostly over water) which won't allow the population to rise this quickly.
Yes, 10 billion people can live together peaceably under a Theocratic Rulership.
