I have a friend who writes poems and he is a missionary ,right in Africa. I was wondering how to get some of his poems published to give him money for food and other things he might need. I just need to know how to go about helping him. They are really good and I can give samples of the poems if they are needed . Thank you for any help you can give me to help this man doing the Lord's work over in Africa.I will check back to see if anyone can help.
Thanks again,
vickie obara
Missionaries usually raise a strong base of support in the States (or wherever their home country is) before going into their missions country. They're also usually supported by their local churches and most of them are connected to some kind of missions organization. I knew a missionary in Kenya (who was a Kenya native) and he received his support from an organization in California.
Anything published here is most likely going to take months to see any revenue at all, and even then you have to break $100 in Adsense before Google will cut a check. Your friend would be much better off raising support from churches or other missionary organizations.
I can only wish you luck, your purpose is less likely to be served here.
Thank you for your help and I am doing research for it now.It is so he can help others in Africa. He has what he needs just wants to do more for the people there. Thanks again.
If the "friend's" survival in those environs depends upon such income, which sounds a bit peculiar for a missionary, I would recommend a different path, since publishers move with the pace of glaciers even in the best of times.
That this "friend" is supposedly unavailable for book tours, readings and such doesn't make promoting his work any easier.
Given that the Original Poster has no published hubs or any other information, I find it even more difficult to judge whether the post is truthful and sincere.
I dont care about whether you think about me and I havent been a member to long to published.I am just trying to help a friend and that would be his decision whether to tour or not but you should not judge people on whether they have something published or not. People do help other people because they care maybe you do not know that feeling .It is not his survival does not depend on this . He just wants to be able to help more people in Africa with food and clothing and health care using his money. TheLord provides him with what he need s and he is happy with that. He just wants to be able to help them more. Nothing for him in it just helping those that need it.If that is wrong then we live in the wrong country. Have a nice day!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I did not judge you. This is an excellent opportunity for you to explain.
ok I am sorry if I took it the wrong way.I am just starting to get back into writing and my friend who would consider a tour but he just wants to help those over there that have little food and health care. He gets what he need from the churches and he just wants to do more. I thought this would be a way for him to get more money to help those people , who need food and other things.I like writing short stories for children but havent been able to because of work and illness , Now I have managed to make time for what I would like to do and i have taken one course Institute for children literature and got a degree from them and plan on taking advance courses to improve my writing. He writes such wonderful poems for me to see and I just felt the world would love to read them too.Thank you for any help you can give me and I can give you his email if you would like to talk to him yourself. They really are great poems and I just was looking for a way to help him. Thank you for your time.Yours Truly, vickie obara
You land here out of nowhere, with 0 posts and 0 hubs, and then you blow up about how nobody appreciates all the work you're doing and nobody likes you...
Your post is incoherent. You write like a 15-year-old kid who broke into mommy's liquor cabinet while she's away and the ceiling is spinning.
Step back and try again.
Hub citizens here gave you good advice. Take it and use it.
You asked about a friend who wants to publish poems. Okay...HubPages is the place to do that.
Tell him to register with hub pages and publish reams of poems to his heart's content.
Simple, yes?
Whether he makes money depends on the quality of the poems.
One I never blew up about anything just said what I thought about it . You have a opinion and I hope you have a nice day any way.. I got some good advice and told the person so.But I will pass your advice on to him too. But you seem to be upset and I hope your day goes better and I am not trying to write anything so since you dont know my age , it doesnt matter to me what you think of me.I wish you the best and thank you for your advice..Have a great day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Vickie Obara, I do appreciate your comments. This is a public forum, and I was concerned about the online safety for all users. This is not an attempt to discredit you, your cause, or your friend - but it is important to ask questions.
I am interested in the question: Can money be made selling poems? I would like to know the answer to that.
The first option that comes to mind is to self-publish, which can be done easily and inexpensively via print-on-demand publishers. However, this will only work financially if you and your friend have a significant constituency of loyal friends, family, and fans who are willing to buy the books.
Getting commercially published nowadays is difficult, and it can take a long time even in the best of circumstances. So that was what I meant with "glaciers," that this may not be a quick solution. But again, one never knows in case it is an interesting niche. From what I have been told, religious and religiously inspired works are sometimes easier to get published compared with other types of work; but whether that will generate real income I do not know.
I do know a good many writers, some of them poets as well. Any information I come across, I will post it here.
Sincerely, W.E.
Thank you and I know you werent trying to discredit me and I really do hank you for your help.I will pass this advice on o my friend.I the other hand , want to start writing either short stories for children and maybe other areas.I am trying to take courses to improve my writing.I havent been able to write for a while so I thought just to do research to start things off.I am nit sure what direction .I want to go in . But I know a lot of research will be dhank you again for your advice and help. vickie obara

One of my friends who is a poet had created a Hub Pages account in hopes to share her poetry with others. She published a number of poetry hubs that included her poetry and appropriate images but they became unpublished with warning messages. I don't remember what they were exactly but I do...

Evening. I'm new; so, I'm not aware if I made any overlook the rules on forum posting. With the article approval, is there a way to find what mistakes and rules that relate to unpublished articles so I know in what area I can improve and edit? The links are very helpful; but, they have too much...

How many of you fellow writers on here have unpublished long story manuscripts stashed in old boxes, on old computers or hidden away on discs? What do you feel about your manuscripts, their future and why are you hiding them? Would you share briefly what you were writing about?

I just published my 50th hub and I wanted to know what other hubbers think about this topic. Once you have successfully published 50 hubs does that accomplishment help increase traffic to all of your published hubs, or create any other bonuses I am unaware of.

So, I have finally finished my goal of writing 100 hubs but I have not published them yet as I'm practically frightened of what HP will do with them. I feel like I have been "flagged" meaning I just imagine the HP team seeing my new hub and going "oh that trouble maker again.. go on...
